At six months, it is time for another well child checkup with your Pediatrician.
In addition to checking your baby's overall growth and development, your baby will likely receive the same vaccines that she got at her two and four month well-child visits. If your child's six-month visit is just before or during cold and flu season (November to March), she may also get a flu shot.
At the six-month checkup with your pediatrician, you can expect:
- A complete physical exam, with special attention to your baby's hips to check for developmental hip dysplasia.
- An examination of your infant's growth and development.
- A review of feeding and sleep schedules.
- Measurement of her height, weight and head circumference.
- Counseling for injury prevention.
- Immunizations: DTaP, HepB, Hib, IPV, Prevnar, RotaTeq, and Influenza during flu season.
The next check up with your pediatrician will be when your baby is nine months old.
Ask Your Pediatrician
Remember that your visits to your pediatrician are a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about your baby.
At six months, you might ask:
- Is my baby ready to start cereal, fruits, vegetables, or other baby foods?
- When can I start meats, finger foods, and table foods?
- How do I childproof my home?
- Can I use baby sunscreen now?
