Q. I am expecting my baby in Jan. We have to move to other state in Feb or March so I want to buy a travel crib for that one month. Can tell me if it is safe for a newborn to sleep in travel cribs for such a long period? If it is safe, then can you suggest a good travel crib? Ani, Hermitage, TN

A. A travel crib can be a great baby product for new parents to have. In addition to being used as a standard crib and playpen by older infants, many include a full size bassinet for newborns and infants that weight less than 15 pounds. So yes, a travel crib with a bassinet might be a good option in your situation.

They are also lightweight, compact, and easy to transport from one room to another in your home, or if you are traveling with your baby.

Portable Play Yards

Portable playards look very similar to travel cribs, including often having a bassinet. However, keep in mind that they don't meet the same safety standards as a real travel crib and your baby should not be left sleeping in a playard unsupervised.
