Expert Q&A

Q. I was on the birth control pill for two or three months and I want to get pregnant. I have been trying. How long will it take to get pregnant? Jessica, San Antonio

A. After stopping birth control pills, you might expect to get pregnant as soon as your next cycle, or not for another 3-6 months.

Keep in mind that only 60% of couples get pregnant after 6 months of trying, so if you haven't gotten pregnant yet, it may have nothing to do with having taken birth control pills recently. These rates increase to 80% by 12 months and 90% by eighteen months.
