Many people see a large baby and have an image of a healthy baby, even if he has some rolls and seems a little chubby. And if the baby isn't being overfed, then he likely is healthy and will probably thin out when he gets older and starts walking.
Parents often get upset by comments made by people when they have one of these large babies, who may be off the top of the growth charts. Consider a six month old baby girl who weighs 20 pounds. It is easy to see why a parent might get annoyed or upset if you say things like:
- Wow! She is the size of my 15 month old.
- Is she supposed to be so fat?
- What are you feeding her?
- What a big baby!
Instead, don't comment on the baby's weight at all, or simply add on to your comments, such as by saying 'what a
beautiful big baby' or 'what a
healthy looking big baby.' Again, remember that you can leave out the part about the baby being 'big'.
