How many calories do your kids need each day?

Here are the results of the Calorie Calculator:

Remember that calories count!

Even if you are careful about avoiding calories from trans fats and bad carbs, if you eat more calories than your body uses, you will gain weight. So to lose weight, you have to use up more calories than you are getting from eating and drinking and the easiest way to do that is to increase your activity level.

Remember that one of the key recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans is that children and adolescents should engage in 60 minutes of physical activity on most, preferably all, days of the week.

Activity Level Definitions

  • Sedentary - a lifestyle that includes only the light physical activity associated with typical day-to-day life.

  • Moderately Active - a lifestyle that includes physical activity equivalent to walking about 1.5 to 3 miles per day at 3 to 4 miles per hour, in addition to the light physical activity associated with typical day-to-day life.

  • Active - a lifestyle that includes physical activity equivalent to walking more than 3 miles per day at 3 to 4 miles per hour, in addition to the light physical activity associated with typical day-to-day life.
