It is important, especially as it is National Poison Prevention Week, to remember that the top household poisons, or the ones that kids are most often exposed to, aren't necessarily the poisons that you would think are the most deadly.
That way you don't overlook common poisons, such as:
- cosmetics and personal care products
- pain relievers
- household cleaning products
- small objects (including button batteries)
- topical creams and ointments
Although you certainly want to childproof your home and secure what we usually think of as classic poisons, such as pesticides and rat poison, you also need to secure all of the more common top household poisons that your kids might have access to.
