Cold and flu season is definitely getting under way in most of the US.
In addition to increased flu activity, with the CDC reporting widespread cases of the flu in five states, including Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, New York and Virginia, thirteen other states are already seeing regional flu cases. If this pattern continues, as it has in many past flu seasons, we will likely see a peak in flu cases in early to mid-February.
Fortunately, that means there is still time to get a flu shot if your kids still aren't protected against the flu, especially as health experts state that this year's flu vaccine is a good match for the flu virus strains that are getting people sick.
In addition to the flu, most states are also seeing an increase in other respiratory infections, including RSV and bronchiolitis, croup, and colds. That makes this a good time to learn about these common infections and make sure your kids know about proper hand washing to try and avoid these germs.
