Stork Craft Baby Crib Recall

By , About.com GuideJanuary 13, 2009

Follow me on:

Baby Crib Recall - Photo courtesy of the CPSCThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc. has recalled about 535,000 baby cribs because 'metal support brackets used to support the crib mattress and mattress board can crack and break,' which can create gaps that can entrap and suffocate children.

These Stork Craft baby cribs were sold between May 2000 and November 2008 at all major retailers, including J.C. Penney, Kmart and Walmart. Parents should stop using the recalled cribs until they can be repaired with new mattress support brackets that you can get for free from Stork Craft.

(7) Reasonable Mom says:

This article never said what happened… apparently, if you install the brackets incorrectly and BEND them, they’ll break. Well duh!
Everyone’s getting in a tizzy without all the facts. Basically, if you assembled the crib to specs, didn’t stomp on, crush, or reef on the brackets, they’re fine. They’ve been tested to withstand 12x the recommended weight and there’s nothing wrong with them.
Some doofus bent the brackets during improper installation and now babies have nowhere to sleep.

The CPSC actually knows of ‘10 incidents in which one or more mattress support brackets broke.’ And the recall alert simply says that the brackets ‘can crack and break,’ and doesn’t mention if that is from normal wear and tear or because of improper installation.

A statement on the Stork Craft website that you can only now read after the site was known for the first days of the recall says that ‘if the brackets are subject to extraordinary stress during inappropriate assembly, such as bending brackets back and forth, metal fatigue can occur and weaken the brackets.’

Still, it seems to me that the crib shouldn’t be so hard to install correctly or the brackets shouldn’t be so flimsy that they fail like that…

The website is working now, but in case it goes down again, it mentions that you should:

Order Replacement Brackets

To order the replacement brackets please send an e-mail to recalls@storkcraft.com and indicate your name, surname, shipping address, crib purchase date, country of manufacture and model number.

Please post when you get your replacement brackets…

(11) Gertrude says:

I too am having trouble getting through to Stockcraft. Message error reads “Sorry domain isn’t allowed relay” Whats up with this? If Stockcraft doesn’t rectify this problem soon and a baby gets hurt due to the poor workmanship of this crib,I see lots of law suites in the furture. What is cheaper for Stockcraft brackets or law suites??? How can I retrieve the correct brackets for the crib.

(12) Jessica says:

i sent an email to recalls@storkcraft.com on jan 16th. didn’t receive a reply so i called 1-866-361-3321 today. was on hold about 20 minutes and then was told that my order was processed jan 23rd and would take approximately 15 business days to ship through fed-ex. she also said it was first come first served, so if it is going to take about a month you should probably contact them now. hope this helps.

January 30, 2009 at 3:00 pm
(13) Kim0603 says:

I have not been able to get a hold of these people either. I have emailed every email address i could find on the website and i have called every number. I have heard nothing and the first email i sent was on Jan. 17th. I can not believe a company would respond like this. There has to be something people can do.

February 2, 2009 at 12:43 pm
(14) Jen says:

I have been trying to call 2 weeks before they put the recall out to order a claw for the sliding bar and it was busy then. Im giving another week then im calling the better business bureau and my lawyer. My daughter has had to sleep in her pack and play for a month now because they wont answer the phones.

February 2, 2009 at 2:02 pm
(15) Jenny Bratton says:

I have been trying to call for days and continue to get a busy signal. I have yet to be able to find another number to contact the company. I too have been trying to order the rails to covert to full size bed. Fortunatley we have a toddler bed in the meantime although my baby isn’t quite ready for that. Sure has been the cause of many awake hours during the night.

February 2, 2009 at 2:12 pm
(16) Jenny Bratton says:

I called CPSC Recall Hotline: (800) 638-2772 and they agreed to contact the company directly. I gave them my name, address, phone number and model number. Good luck to each of you!

February 3, 2009 at 12:36 pm
(17) Sadie says:

I was only able to get thru to them via e-mail. I just got a reply back today with a fedex number with my replacement parts!!
send e-mail to: recalls@storkcraft.com
also send them the following: name and address, crib purchase date, country of manufacture, model number.
It took a while, but they finally sent me an e-mail back.
GOOD LUCK!!

Sadie, what day did you send you email? I ordered on Jan 15th and have heard nothing.

February 10, 2009 at 2:44 pm
(19) Lewis says:

We received information on the recall and my wife called Storkcraft on Jan. 16th, giving them the necessary information. To date, we have heard nothing. We have tried calling and either get busy signals or are on hold forever! The web site says 5-7 days processing and it is getting close to a month for us!

February 12, 2009 at 12:49 pm
(20) Jeremie says:

My wife and I had purchased the crib back in December, well we had a couple of damage parts that needed replaced. Sent that order in on 1/8/09 still haven’t received them. Sent multiple emails with no reponse and their phone lines are always busy. Finally got through a week ago and she said she would put a rush on the order. Today i googled stork craft to see if any one else had complaints and came across the recall. Funny thing when i called they never mention to me that their was a recall. Unbelievable, my wife is due with our first child any day now and we have no crib!!!! Beware of Stork Craft…

(21) Kristine says:

have some patience. We are luck that they even told us about the problem.

February 16, 2009 at 12:03 pm
(22) KBE says:

Just got through after holding for 40 min., and here’s what she said: it takes 4-6 weeks to process an email request from the date it’s entered into the database. When they receive a request, it takes some amount of time to manually enter it into the database (couldn’t say how long), then 4-6 weeks from that time to process it, then another week to ship. She could not tell me when the request was entered into the database, so I can’t know when to start counting the 4-6 weeks. However, she was able to confirm that my request had been entered and they were processing it. So better than nothing, but really not much info. She said they would email me when it shipped. Good luck, everyone!

You might try the toll free consumer hotline at the Consumer Product Safety Commission – 1-800-638-2772. Or try your local TV news station or newspaper. A story on how hard it is to get the recalled cribs fixed and how they are still breaking might get the company moving a little faster to get the new brackets to parents.

(25) another waiting parent says:

My has been sleeping our playpen for over month now…. I have tryed every thing to get hold storkcraft…. I did through to phone but end up with a answering that never call me back… plus email them and even fill there recall form. BUT no reply… Does this company really at exist.. that what i am wondering now.

(26) Bob C says:

What course of action do any of us have if Storkcraft continues to give us the run around? I purchased through babies r us online and I’m wondering if maybe they can help put the pressure on Storkcraft. Surely Babies R Us wants to stand behind the brands they sell….

February 26, 2009 at 3:22 pm
(27) Amy says:

I’ve been waiting 5 weeks for my replacement brackets. Called them, Emailed them and my ordered is not even processed yet. DON’T buy this crib or any product from Stockcraft. If you need help from them you will not get it.

February 27, 2009 at 8:36 pm
(28) Chelsea says:

I still haven’t heard from them about recall. But I did immediately get a response about buying missing parts. 20 for the parts and 22 to ship luckily I found the pieces we needed at the hardware store for 2.50. I know what their priority is.

(30) Jim Kane says:

I purchased a Jenny Lind Conv. Crib (Stork Craft) at Sears in April 2008. Model 04562-15L. Manufactured in October 2006 in China.
The right side crib mattress support broke. I reported this Februray 8th on the recall site and thought I would have heard or had replacement parts by now.
There has been no response confirming that my email had been received or that replacement parts had been Fed-Exed like the website indicates.I have tried calling for two days with no response. Today the phone numbers all ring “busy”.

Call the main number to Strokcraft not the recall line. Yopu may have to call several times to not get a busy signal but it works. 877-274-0277. Took about 15 days to ship new brackets.

March 6, 2009 at 10:45 pm
(33) Nikki says:

I’ve called and e-mailed them several times. Never received any e-mails back. But Every time I call them (I’m on hold for at least an hr. each time), they tell me 2 weeks (this started on January 21st). It is now March 6th and no replacement brackets. When I put in my order # on the website, it still says “order being processed”…which means my order wasn’t even shipped. Oh and when I asked to speak to a supervisor (after 3 dif. times of hearing 2 weeks) they first said they don’t transfer to supervisors. Then, I got a little loud and they transferred me to a voicemail box that was FULL!! Terrible customer service. I understand there is a recall, but it is very frustrating that I am given the run around and always being told 2 weeks (they are obviously lying and just saying it to get me off the phone). I just want an answer as to when my brackets will arrive.

(34) Chris says:

I have one of these recalled storkcraft cribs. I had emailed them, they took 2 weeks to respond, said I would have the parts in a few days fedexed, 3 weeks later and I still didn’t have them. Tried to call, and the phone number was always busy. I didn’t want to email again and wait another couple of weeks. I made a call to a service I have and within a week, Storkcraft Fedexed (NEXT DAY) the parts to me. I will be more than happy to share with you how I did it. I can be emailed at csramsey35@gmail.com or called (910) 545-2136. My name is Chris.

March 9, 2009 at 10:59 am
(35) Melissa says:

I also ordered new parts from the website and have heard NOTHING…no email or anything, saying that they received my email and I have parts on the way. I ordered the parts January 10 by email. Like everyone else has stated, the phone lines are always busy. It’s rediculous that those of you who have even had an incident can’t even get any help.

March 31, 2009 at 6:52 pm
(36) Allison says:

I, like everyone else, has emailed and called numerous times. I have been trying to get these parts for more than two months and am quite frustrated with their service. There WILL NOT be anymore Storkcraft products in my home in the future. They definitely aren’t worth the headache! My one year old has been moved to a twin bed and I guess we will be buying another crib for the baby on its way…

(37) Gail says:

I just bought a crib for my grandchild due in 3 months. Im confused that the brackets included are different than the ones in the set up instructions. I havent heard back yet which ones are the new replacements. Does anyone know if the failed brackets looked more like an “L” shape or a “C” shape??

April 22, 2009 at 3:07 pm
(38) Vincent Iannelli, MD says:

Hopefully no one is still selling a recalled product…

There is a picture of the bracket in the original CPSC press release:

(39) Gail says:

Thanks for your help Dr V, those recalled brackets are the ones pictured in our set up instructions but the brackets included with the crib are a very sturdy “L” shape. Good to know… thanks again!

(40) Judy says:

Storkcraft replacement crib brackets. We bought a strokcraft crib through Walmart. One week later Storkcraft recalled the crib brackets. After several months of waiting for the wood replacement parts due to the damage of the shipping of the crib, we returned the crib to Walmart for a refund. Then several days later, we received separately two sets of the recalled crib brackets which hold up the platform board for the mattress. If you are still waiting for the replacement brackets to be sent to you from Storkcraft, you can contact us and have one of these sets. The package weight 1.5 lbs-pay the postage and we will be glad to send them to you in the package we received them in.

(43) Tammy Adams says:

I am one of the lucky ones. I returned my son’s crib, because he wouldn’t sleep in it, instead he slept with my husband and I. My heart goes out to those Mom’s and Dad’s that have lost a child due to the poor design.

November 24, 2009 at 8:41 am
(44) Jen says:

You need to have patience..think about how many people are trying to call or order from them, they can only move soo fast. If your so worried dont stick your child in the crib. I have a storkcraft crib and I’ve stuck my 40lbs niece in it and nothing happened to it. I read an article and its not just the manufactures fault..it is also some parents because they put the cribs together wrong. At least the had the guts to tell us about this problem..think about how much money and business there going to loose now. Im not trying to back them up but sometimes mistakes happen like this..there not the first to have recalled a babys item. I hope that all your children are safe and are not injured and im sorry for those who have lost…Its not easy I know!!

November 24, 2009 at 9:57 am
(45) Carrie says:

I also need the crib brackets and I ordered them from the site….but it took almost 2 months to receive them! If I ever do get trough to them about this latest problem w/ the drop sides…how many months will it be until I can receive the part to fix it…I may just go buy a new crib.
I agree though…sometimes mistakes just happen but I’m not ready to wait this one out and hope for the best.

Ditto! Same problem. No one will answer phone and cannot get any info on the website! It’s not working! Frustrated!

November 24, 2009 at 10:15 am
(47) Steph says:

My son has been sleeping in his Storkcraft crib for 6 months now. I didn’t even know about the earlier recall. We’ve had to “jimmy” rig his crib because the hardware for the drop down side has come loose off of the crib. We had to tape it with duct tape and tie a rope on it. The crib is in a permanent “side-up” position which is fine with me as long as my son is safe.

November 24, 2009 at 10:18 am
(48) Jen says:

Same..I cant get an answer on the phone, the website is done and there email isnt working. I called Walmart where I bought it and they told me that there also waiting on information about it. They said that usually they will send them the parts and you can go there and get them but if not then call the number and it should only take a day to get it.

November 24, 2009 at 10:25 am
(49) Jen says:

When I first bought the crib my fiance and I were putting it together and the drop side bracket was broken..we had to call and get a new part. I’ve only used mine for her to nap in during the day, she sleeps in a bassinet at night cuz shes only 3 months..I knew there was a reason I never felt safe with her in a crib.

November 24, 2009 at 10:38 am

(52) cw says:

I emailed them a about this second recall on replacement parts to make the dropside stationary (since I could not get on the website and phone is busy.) We’ll see how long it takes to get a reply, if any. The 1st recall for brackets I sent my info via the web, received the parts, but never got any confirmation or reply. It was quick, but only because it was so late in the game (a few months ago). I’m sorry that this is happening, and could even say i wish i never bought this crib, but hopefully will get some sort of reply soon

(55) colleen says:

Ican’t even find the web site. And as far as the bent bracket theory.First tell that to the parents who lost their kids. And is anyoneone else willing to find out. And my brackets are plastic. Easy to notice any little bend. I just want my sons crib fixed!!!!!!!!!

(56) cw says:

I bought my crib BECAUSE I WANTED A DROPSIDE CRIB! Now because I bought one with cheap defective hardware made by STORKCRAFT, I am being told I have to convert my crib into a NON-DROPSIDE CRIB???? hold on a second here…. GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK STORKCRAFT!

November 24, 2009 at 7:21 pm
(57) Melinda says:

Same problem here, can’t get through to them on the phone or the web. I will NEVER buy another product by this company.

November 24, 2009 at 7:39 pm
(58) Melinda says:

I just wanted to add, there are a couple of different issues to this recall. The first round of recalls that happened in January had to do with the metal brackets. There is now another issue with the dropside mechanism itself. Many of the cribs have cheap plastic guides that allow the side to go up and down with one hand to be handy for when you’;re holding a baby. Our crib has this. But if these become worn, the dropside can fall down OR if the side is lifted too high and not reseated proerly, the dropside comes loose. We had accidently lifted our side too high one night, and thankfully we noticed and fixed it. So, it’s not just about the metal brackets and not everyone having a problem is having it because they’ve made assembly errors. Stork Craft is at fault here, not consumers. THere is a video that clearly shows both issues: http://news.aol.com/article/21-million-stork-craft-dropside-cribs/455863

(59) sarah says:

I have a ragazzi crib model 1801. Storkcraft bought this company back in 2006 and I do not know and can not find any information on if my crib is part of this recall. Does anyone know if it is?

November 24, 2009 at 9:31 pm
(60) Robyn says:

I also have one of these cribs. But I have got threw on the phone all it says is to go on the website to fill out the info to get sent the replacement part. so callin is a waste of your time.
And I am also having the problem of getting on to their web site to get the replacement kit.

I got my crib from walmart canada and mine came with both brackets and i didnt know why i had extra parts till i seen the recall. but I still have the drop down rail. I was watchin gon the news today that the replacement for the drop down rail problem makes it so the crib doesnt have the drop down rail.

November 24, 2009 at 10:51 pm
(61) Christina says:

The recalled cribs have one of the following model numbers, which can be found on the envelope attached to the mattress support and on the label attached to the headboard: 4600, 4605, 4705, 5000, 8000, 8324, 8800, 8740, 8910, 8994, 8050, 8750, 8760, and 8996.
*Any of these on your crib?
* The recall also involves the following Simplicity cribs that used the Graco logo: Aspen 3 in 1, Ultra 3 in 1, Ultra 4 in1, Ultra 5 in 1, Whitney and the Trio.

November 24, 2009 at 11:31 pm
(62) cw says:

I still think its ridiculous that you are forced to convert a drop-side crib into a permanently fixed crib if it was purchased for that reason. So now consumers have to be specialists themsevles at testing products out in the store or after buying online? Hmmm let me look at every little part to make sure its not as cheaply made as these were. What exactly was storkcraft thinking? Certainly not about the babies!!! my gosh. it is sad that once again saving a bit of money on cheaply made hardware cost us lives.
****************************************************
MORE IMPORTANTLY if your going to keep using this crib
WATCH THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2RUXYmipmU

it shows you exactly what the part is that you need to convert your drop-side to a permanently fixed side.
****************************************************

p.s. that other video perviously posted blames Canada entirely for manufacturing of cribs. I am in Canada, and mine says…. manufactured in china!!! they also came from indonesia people.

November 24, 2009 at 11:36 pm
(63) Dawn says:

I read today that it was for ALL Storkcraft cribs with a drop-down side manufactured from 1993 to date. I, too, can’t get through via phone or internet. I just e-mailed my request from the address written about from the previous recall. I don’t know if/when they’ll respond back.

November 25, 2009 at 12:26 am
(64) Melinda says:

Thanks for posting that YouTube video. One thing I have to ask: Why on Earth would any company use such cheap plastic to build the drop side mechanism in the first place? It’s obviously critical to funtion AND safety, so why use such cheap materials? I have to say I will still never buy another Stork Craft product.

We purchased a Storkcraft Angelina 3 in 1 Convertible Crib (drop side crib) at TJ’s Kiddie Store Marine Drive last month. When we heard the recall, we checked the crib and it was manufactured last September 2008. Why are they still selling these crib which was recalled last January of 2009. I called TJ’s store and telling that I would like to return the crib and expect for a refund and all they said is they can’t accept it and I must contact STORKCRAFT directly. They are ripping people off. I am due in 4 weeks and no crib for my baby.

i had recieved a crib by mail from storkcraft and pieces came broken. when i called for the pieces, in august 2009, they told me it would be 4-6 weeks before i would recieve the pieces. i told them that my baby was due anytime and what was i suppose to do without the crib and asked if they could get them shipped faster, they said that my baby would not roll so it would be safe to put her in the crib without the side on it.

I email at parts@storkcraft.com for the last recall and never reieved an email back or any parts from the last recall. So I did the same thing this time and thus far they haven’t even opened the email sine I asked to have a read reciept. Does anyone know any other way to contacting them. I think having 2 recall on cribs they should start refunding people for the cribs. Not everyone can afford to go out and buy a new crib.

I’m also due to deliver a baby in less than 2 weeks (if the ctx I’m having let me go that long) – and I would *NEVER* place my infant, newborn or not, in any location that did not secure her from falling out, etc. This is baby #5 for me and trust me, I’ve personally witnessed a newborn active enough that a side crib rail missing from a crib is just STUPID advice. In any case, I’m furious that Storkcraft hasn’t hired out a temporary call center (several of them) to be able to handle this issue in a more timely manner. I have been trying for days to get someone on the line to no avail – just a constant busy signal. :( Thank God I have a travel playpen/bassinet to tide me over until I’m able to buy a replacement crib.

they sent me an email reply earlier today with an order number for the retro-fit conversion clips. They said they are working through the initial surge of requests, and said they are doing their very best to meet the demands. They are standing by their product.
They said they entered my request into their system. I only expect they are doing first come first serve. But i was actually surprised to even get an email. I now only expect another email saying it has been shipped or some status of my order. hopefully they can at least spend the time to let people know what is going on so we don’t have to chase them down or worse, start being loyal to another crib manufacturer who doesn’t use cheap parts put together their cribs and doesn’t use the consumers to test their products.

received the PLASTIC conversion kit yesterday. funny how it was sent regular mail and not fedex like the last recall part. I will still be checking my CHEAP plastic dropside hardware regularly as this conversion kit thing is nothing but a false sense of security.

I took mine back to JCPenney – it was unacceptable to me to have to wait for these parts and for my baby to have to sleep in her pack’n'play indefinitely. After quite a bit of a run around, the store is finally exchanging my 3.5 year old crib for a new one that is safe! Ordered the new crib yesterday (Tues.) and it’ll be here on Friday!

(78) chris says:

if you assemble, use and maintain your crib properly there is absolutly no danger in using a dropside crib. unless the parts do not properly lock together, which then you should have already called for replacements. if you are unhappy with your crib, you are the one to blame because you are the one who accepted the product the way it is and would have never known of any danger if there wasnt a recall because some idiots left a side of the crib unhinged. stop pointing the finger and trying to blame storkcraft for your stupidity and blindness. and as for the brackets, i have a crib with the recalled brackets and i couldnt break them if i tried. there is no way those brackets could break if the crib is used as directed, if they were to break it would have been noticeable long before it did.

I currently own 2 identical Stork Craft Jenny Lind Convertible Cribs, purchased in 2006 and 2008, but made in 2005 and 2006. Both Models numbers are the same 04562-15N. I just received the clips to make the drop side a permanent side and now find out there is another RECAL on the metal brackets for the same crib? Why didn’t they mention this when I requested the dropside pieces?

There is also another issue with the entire design of the dropside mechanism itself. The fix for the dropside DOES NOT stop the side from going upwards and off if the child moves in the night. We kept hearing a banging noise on the wall and thankfully when we checked on it we realized it was because the side rail had actually slipped up and OFF the top of the plastic, this was AFTER the clips were in place so it is obviously STILL a safety issue.

Additionally when the crib is converted to the toddler bed, the instructions are to remove the ONLY fixed side of the crib and install this wooden piece that screws together with the same little metal funny looking nut pieces that go inside the wood to hold it tight.

After using this sidepiece on one of our cribs for just over a year the entire screw and nut piece broke free from the wood, this leaves the bed held together with the damaged dropside and one screw! And of course, what is the inside of this toddler bed piece made from?? CHEAP, glued together chip board! This is just ridiculous!

It’s not just one problem with the crib/toddler/daybed combo it’s MANY. So far we have had 3 separate issues with just the one crib. What am I suppose to put my son in to sleep??
Isn’t the entire reason we bought the convertible crib/toddler/day bed so that we didn’t have to spend the money and buy something else when they outgrew the crib! These convertible cribs are NOT cheap at all, in fact they were quite expensive in my opinion, so I thought I was getting quality, apparently not!

So, it’s not just about the metal brackets or the plastic side rails and not becasue eacha and every person unlucky enought to purchase one of these cribs is having issues because they’ve made assembly errors. I guarantee there is no assembly errors in either of my cribs.

Stork Craft IS at fault here, not consumers. Anyone who thinks different needs a major reality check.

Refunds should be made on any and all of the affected products for anyone who still requires use of them. My 3 year old should be able to use that toddler bed for at least another year, possibly 2 depending on his weight and most defiantly I should get at least 2-3 more years out of our other one!

Frankly the stores selling these recalled products should willingly take them back as they can send them into Stork Craft for a refund anyway. As a previous retail sales associate I can guarantee you places like Sears and J.C. Penny do not suffer more then the hassle to return it.

Why is it the consumer is the one made to suffer, the children put in danger? Why are we left to sit with cribs we can’t use while they just send out replacement parts for this or that, half of which don’t work anyway? I now have 2 children, no beds and a disability income now. What the hell am I supposed to do?

I am so annoyed with Stork Craft. After spending a small fortune on a Stork Craft crib, it gets recalled. I tried for a month to go online and call with no success. I finally bought a very plain and inexpensive crib from Ikea (no moving parts). I tried to call on March 4th, I have waited for the recall fuss to die down, the phones are still busy! I went to the web site, filled out the recall form for my crib and recieved the following email.

>Dear valued Stork Craft customer,
>We have received your order and it is in our system >being processed. It is important to note that all Stork >Craft cribs, including the recalled cribs, continue to be >JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association) >certified and meet or exceed all current USA and >Canadian national safety standards.

>Conversion kits are being shipped within 2 – 5 business >days. Please allow an additional 5 – 10 business days >for the retro-fit conversion clips to pass through >customs (if necessary) and reach your destination via >the postal system.

>Thank you from all of us here at Stork Craft.

NOW KEEP IN MIND, that was on March 4th. I received the following email today March 15th.

>Dear KAREN B,

>We have received your order for 1xDropside >Replacement Kit. Based on our records, the model you >provided may not be a valid model for replacements >parts for a voluntary recall. Replacement parts are only >available for:

>1) Drop-side Crib Conversion Clips – Stork Craft brand >drop-side cribs with plastic drop-side hardware:

>* made between January 1993 and October 2009.
>* the Fisher-Price logo made between October 1997 >and December 2004.

>These drop-side cribs came in two styles:

>a) One Hand System Drop-Side Cribs do NOT require >pressing a button to lower the rail.

>To see an example of the One Hand System in action, >please view the 3 minute mark in the following You-Tube >video link:

>b) Trigger System Drop-Side Cribs require two hands to >pull trigger locks on either side of the rail before it will >lower.

>2) Metal Mattress Brackets

>* Stork Craft cribs manufactured between May 2000 and >November 2008

>If you believe your crib is part of a voluntary recall, >please send an email to parts@storkcraft.com with the >following information which can be found at the bottom >right hand corner of the assembly sheet on the >mattress base board (under the crib’s mattress).

>* Model Number

>* Country of Manufacture

>Please also provide your shipping information:

>*First Name
>*Last Name

>* Shipping address (including PO box number, >apartment number, etc if applicable)
>*City:
>*State/Province
>*Zip/Postal Code
>*Phone Number

>Thank you,

>Stork Craft Manufacturing, Inc.

I watched the video, YEP, MINE IS A RECALL….STILL. The above information that they are now requesting, is the same information that I had to fill out the first time. So here I sit stumped and annoyed. If I already gave them this info and they responded by saying “Conversion kits are being shipped within 2 – 5 business days.” Than why am I being asked over again for the same info? My best guess stalling.

In the mean time my daughter is sleeping well in her Ikea crib, which by the way cost less than a third of the Stork Craft. Did I mention I am 5′3 and can not reach over the rail to pick up my child when the mattress is at the lowest level, so the part I am waiting for is only a waste. I hope to sell this lovely piece of junk since my daughter is no longer needing it. Any takers….I didn’t think so. To top it off the model I own, Taylor, stages crib, is still listed on Stork Crafts site. See for yourself. http://209.207.119.61/product_detail.aspx?sub=48

So now I am stumped, annoyed, out quite a bit of money, and finding out that the fix for junky plastic is to send you more plastic to make the bed no longer function. Yippie! THANKS STORK CRAFT!

Talk about poor customer service!!!Just ordered replacement parts for storkcraft crib since it was not in use when recalls came out ( I figured that the people who were using the crib at the time needed them sooner.) I asked the question about whether I needed both recalled parts or just one. Lady on phone basically gave me a pathetic speech about how it was my fault I didn’t know this and I should find these things out myself!! What an upstanding company to make their supporters feel like dumbasses! I sure would love to see a company actually care again for their customer’s safety, especially when the users of the product are babies!!! I HATE Storkcraft and everything they stand for. Don’t buy their products.

I have almost 2 year old twins and tonight my 28 lb son was jumping in his Storkcraft crib and all of a sudden the rear left side bracket broke. Fortunately I was standing there and due to space have been storing diapers in the boxes under his bed so the mattress didn’t fall far. I was looking up how to order the replacement metal bracket when I saw this recall. I knew about the dropside issue but not the bracket recall. I went to the website.. hoping it won’t take 4-6 weeks to get it this far out from the intial rush. To anyone who says the brackets won’t break if you install them correctly, that it not correct. I installed EXACTLY as the directions said, did NOT bend it at all and my lightweight child still caused it to break.
