Are They Twins?

Identical Twins At The Beach

Ok, as a parent of twins (not the ones pictured above), I do have to admit that you sometimes like that extra attention you get when you have your twins out in public. But when you have identical twins who are dressed alike, it can be a little annoying to be asked if they are twins, especially when you are asked over and over and over again on the same day...

With identical twin boys, at least I don't have to go through what some of my friends with fraternals do, like when they are asked if their twins are identical, when it is obvious that one is a boy and the other is a girl!

So what's my response when I have the boys out and I'm asked if they are twins? Well, like I said, usually I enjoy the attention and I'm actually not annoyed by the question. If for some reason I'm not in a mood to show off my twins, I just smile and say, 'no, they're clones.'

Other things that you probably shouldn't ask a parent of twins:

  • Why do you dress them alike?
  • Why don't you dress them alike?
  • Do you have a favorite?
  • Is one smarter than the other one?
So what should you say? The basics will do, like:
  • Your twins are beautiful.
  • You are doubly (or triply, etc.) blessed.
  • Do they have the same personality?
  • How do you tell them apart? (this annoys some people though)
  • Do they have their own twin language? (this annoys some people though)
