The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that pediatricians should begin testing their patient's visual acuity at the earliest age that is practical, which is usually when kids are about three years old.
While the Eye Test app likely won't help you test the visual acuity of these three year olds, since most won't recognize the letters on the Snellen eye chart, it will help you perform some of your visual acuity measurements on older children.
I have found it most useful to confirm a failed vision test that my nurses have already done, especially when I was wondering if the child was simply being non-compliant with the vision test, or if I was wondering if our SureSight Vision Screener gave a false reading.
Some suggestions for improvement:
- add the HOTV distance vision test, which can be especially useful for younger children
- add the random E or tumbling E eye chart or LEA symbol charts for younger kids who don't know their letters yet
- add tests for near vision problems
