In this week's Saturday Safety Roundup, stories of:

  • a 10-month-old in Lakewood, New Jersey who suffered life-threatening injuries after she was attacked by a dog (a mixed boxer and pit-bull) who "unexpectedly lunged at the child and locked her in its jaws" while she was playing with the dog while her family was house-sitting for a relative.
  • a 2-year-old in Sabinal, Texas who died after he was attacked by a pit bull after he chased a balloon into the neighbor's yard.
  • a 4-year-old in Weiser, Idaho who died as he tried to get into the bed of a pickup truck and was backed over by his father.
  • a 2-year-old in Delray Beach, Florida who died as he ran into the road, thinking his father was nearby, and was run over by a truck.
  • a 2-year-old in Eclectic, Alabama who drowned in an above-ground swimming pool.
  • a 2-year-old in Swoyersville, Pennsylvania who drowned at home.
  • an 18-month-old in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii who drowned in a plastic tank filled with water after his mother lost track of him for a few seconds and he went missing for 10-15 minutes while playing outside.
  • a 15-year-old in El Dorado Hills, California who died in a sledding accident. He lost control of an inner tube and hit a tree.
  • a 3-year-old in Garland, Texas who died after he was unintentionally shot in the head.
  • a 9-year-old in Decatur, Ohio who is in critical condition after he was unintentionally shot in the head with a gun that he found in his parent's bedroom. His younger sister tried to take it away from him when it discharged.
  • a girl in Bazine, Kansas who was killed in an unintentional shooting.
  • a 2-year-old in Isabella, Pennsylvania who is in critical condition after he unintentionally shot himself in the face with a gun he found in his mother's purse.
  • a 4-year-old in Spring Creek, Nevada who was shot in the leg by a family member.
  • a 5-year-old in Bronx, New York who unintentionally shot himself in the arm while playing with his father's gun.
  • a 1-year-old in New York City who died with severe burns when she rolled off a bed and was found the next morning wedged behind a hot radiator.
  • a 2-year-old in Ballard, Utah who died in a fire in a camp trailer in his grandfather's backyard and which was started by a spliced electrical cord.
  • three toddlers in Kalamazoo, Michigan who died in an apartment fire.
  • a child in Porterville, California who suffered burns to his hands and left eye while trying to launch a model rocket.
  • a 21-month-old in New York City who was injured when he tripped coming down an escalator and got his hand caught in the steps.

Keep your kids safe. Not all, but many of these types of accidents can be prevented.

Many of the accidents and tragedies are ones that we see week after week, especially drownings, falls, ATV accidents, unintentional shootings, and even lawn mower accidents.

Spread the word about child safety to help save lives and reduce these types of accidents and tragedies.
