In this week's Saturday Safety Review, stories of:
- a 3-year-old in Belleview, Florida who was seriously injured when the ATV he was riding on with his 9-year-old brother crashed into a tree.
- an 8-year-old in Montana Vista, Texas who was injured when the ATV he was riding on with his mother crashed.
- a 3-year-old in Fitchburg, Massachusetts who, along with her mother, were seriously injured after an attack by a pit bull.
- a 4-year-old in New Mexico who was viciously attacked by a group of Husky and German Shepard dogs that entered her open backyard after escaping from a neighbor's backyard. The girl required 75 stitches for bites to her head and neck.
- an 8-year-old with a history of health problems in Douglas County, Kansas who drowned in a bathtub.
- two children and their father in Delano, Tennessee who are missing and may have drowned after their canoe capsized in a flooded creek. Three other children made it to shore.
- a 7-year-old in Findley Lake, New York who suffered a head injury after he fell from a chair lift at the Peek 'n Peak Resort and Spa.
- two children in New Hampshire who were injured after they fell out of a chair lift at the Gunstock Mountain Resort.
- a 1-year-old in La Puente, California who died when a brick fell from a patio structure and hit the toddler on his head while he with his older sister in their backyard.
- a 13-year-old in Livingston, Texas who died after falling while practicing for an upcoming dance performance.
- 3 children and their grandmother in Gloucester, Virginia who died in a house fire. The fire may have started near a space heater.
- a 12-year-old in Bainbridge, Georgia who was seriously injured, already requiring two surgeries, after shooting himself in his leg while hunting.
- a 4-year-old in Richmond, Virginia who unintentionally shot and killed a relative in his home using a gun he found on a table.
- a 2-year-old in Savannah, Georgia who unintentionally shot himself with a gun he found in a drawer.
- a 17-year-old in Cleveland, Ohio who was unintentionally shot in the chest while he and a friend were handling a gun.
- a 17-year-old in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts who suffered a serious head injury while sledding.
- a 10-year-old in Boise, Idaho who was seriously injured after a sledding accident in which he slid into the road and into the side of a passing car.
- a 3-year-old in Connell, Washington who died after he was run over by a relative pulling into the family's driveway.
- an 18-month-old in Long Beach, California who is in critical condition after running into the street and getting hit by a pickup truck, whose driver panicked and backed over the toddler.
- a 9-year-old in Houston County, Texas who was burned after a friend threw gasoline on a burn pile that they were playing around.
Keep your kids safe. Not all, but many of these types of accidents can be prevented.
Many of the accidents and tragedies are ones that we see week after week, especially drownings, falls, ATV accidents, unintentional shootings, and even lawn mower accidents.
