Not surprisingly, as we are early in this year's flu season, the CDC reports that flu activity continues to increase, especially in the south central and southeastern parts of the United States.
Specifically, the CDC reports that:
- 18 states are reporting widespread flu activity (up from only 8 states last week)
- 17 states reported regional flu activity
- 6 kids have died from the flu (including one new pediatric flu death this past week)
- the majority of flu strains that have been tested are good matches for the strains of flu in this year's flu vaccine
Keep in mind that while the CDC reports that we are "experiencing an early flu season," it is likely far from over. That makes it a good time to get a flu vaccine if you haven't yet, and get protected for the rest of this year's flu season, which many predict to be one of the worst flu seasons we have seen in some time.
