The American Academy of Pediatrics and area Pediatricians, in addition to offering their support and sympathy to the victims of Superstorm Sandy, have provided the following resources:
- an updated Children and Disasters website, with information on talking to children about disasters, helping children adjust and cope, protecting children after a hurricane, and strategies for flood recovery.
- a link between the AAP Chapter Disaster Preparedness contacts and FEMA.
- messages to parents addressing flood recovery and cleanup and children's health and safety issues to Help Keep Children Safe in Sandy's Wake.
- a special Disaster Relief and Preparedness Fund
Many pediatrician's offices are still closed or are seeing sick children only, putting preventative care on hold until things get back to normal, which is a good reminder for every doctor to have a disaster plan in place.
