In this week's Saturday Safety Roundup, stories of:

  • a 3-year-old in Louisville, Kentucky who was hit by a car while trick-or-treating.
  • a 7-year-old in Tulsa, Oklahoma who died after he stepped off the curb and in front of a car while wearing his Halloween costume on his way to catch his school bus.
  • two children in Houston, Texas who were taken to the hospital after getting hit by an SUV while crossing a street while trick-or-treating.
  • two preschoolers in Carrollton, Kentucky who died when their school bus rolled over and crashed into a tree.
  • a 16-year-old in Rock Hall, Maryland who was shot in the leg during a Halloween event by someone using a loaded shotgun as part of a character he was portraying.
  • a 13-year-old in Grovetown, Georgia who died when she was unintentionally shot by a 14-year-old boy with a shotgun he found in the master bedroom.
  • a 2-year-old in Darlington, South Carolina who shot himself in the stomach with a semi-automatic handgun he found in his home.
  • an 8-year-old in Cedar Falls, Iowa who was shot in the head after he wandered in front of his 5-year-old sister on the Black Hawk Park gun range.
  • a 4-year-old in Greenville, North Carolina who was unintentionally shot in his arm with a rifle that his father thought was unloaded.
  • a 7-year-old in Richmond County, Georgia who died after he was ejected from the backseat of a car after it was by a pickup truck.
  • an 11-year-old in Lake Jackson, Texas who died after she was hit by a pickup truck as she crossed the street on the way home from school. She was in a crosswalk and the pickup had a green light as it turned and ran her over.
  • an 8-year-old in Carrollton, Georgia who died after he was hit by a pickup truck as he was crossing the street near a crosswalk with his father.
  • two teens in Seneca, South Carolina who died when the moped they were riding on collided with a pickup truck.
  • a 17-year-old in Plainfield Township, Pennsylvania who died when his ATV hit a downed tree.
  • a 10-month-old in Onaka, South Dakota who died when the ATV she was riding on with an adult and two other children rolled over.
  • a 3-year-old in Bessemer, Alabama who drowned in a bath tub while bathing with his 1-year-old sibling.
  • a 2-year-old in Satellite Beach, Florida who drowned in a backyard swimming pool.
  • a 17-year-old from Waterville, Minnesota who drowned when his boat capsized while he was duck hunting with friends.
  • a 14-year-old in Draper, Utah who is in critical condition after falling about 20 feet from a lift while working on the set of a high school play.
  • a 2-year-old in Greenville, Mississippi who died in a house fire.
  • a 12-year-old in Cleveland, Ohio who is in critical condition after touching a live power line which was knocked down during Hurricane Sandy.
  • a 14-year-old in Madison County, Kentucky who died when he was hit by a train while walking along the tracks.

Keep your kids safe. Not all, but many of these types of accidents can be prevented.

Many of the accidents and tragedies are ones that we see week after week, especially drownings,fallsATV accidents, accidental shootings, and even lawn mower accidents.
