In this week's Saturday Safety Roundup, stories of:
- a 4-year-old in Parkersburg, West Virginia who died after being left in a hot car. She was found in a car parked at a daycare center.
- a 4-year-old in Georgia who is in critical condition after being unintentionally shot in the head while driving with her mother and 3 siblings, one of whom may have found and had been handling the gun when it went off.
- an 8-year-old in Dassel, Minnessota who was unintentionally shot in the head by a sibling with a .44 caliber handgun.
- a 16-year-old in Malone, New York who died after his ATV collided with an SUV.
- a 2-year-old in Jenkins, Kentucky who died when the ATV he was riding on with his father, who was thought to be drunk, flipped while going up a steep hill.
- a 4-year-old in Sammamish, Washington who died after being strangled by a jump rope. Her twin brother and caretaker were nearby picking blackberries and when they returned, they found her on a slide with the jump rope around her neck.
- a 16-year-old from Queens, New York who died when he stuck his head out of the emergency hatch of a double-decker party bus, which he was riding with 65 other teens, and hit the underside of a highway overpass.
- an 18-year-old in Burlington, Vermont who died when he lost control while riding a skateboard down a steep hill and hit his head. He was about to start his freshman year at a nearby college.
- a child in Marion, Indiana who suffered severe burns after a backyard fire his grandfather had built ignited his shirt.
- a 6-year-old in Morrow County, Ohio who died when a large tree, which was rotted at its base, fell on her in her backyard.
- a 7-year-old in Fall River, Massachusetts who has serious injuries to his arm after he fell in his driveway and was run over by a pickup truck.
- a 21-month-old in Providence, Rhode Island who died after he fell from a second-story window in his home. He had been jumping on his bed, which was pushed up against the window, when he fell out of the open window.
- a 2-year-old in Troy, New York who is in critical condition after he fell out of a second-story window in his home.
- a 2-year-old in Salina, Texas who died after he fell from a swimming pool ladder and hit his head on the concrete below.
- a 16-year-old in Dakota Dunes, Iowa who died after she was thrown out of a pickup truck bed.
- an 8-year-old girl in Simi Valley, California who was bitten in the face by a German shephard at a neighborhood park.
- a 7-year-old girl in Hampden Township, Pennsylvania who required surgery after she was bitten by an American bulldog while taking a walk with her grandfather.
- an 18-m0nth-old in Harrisonburg, Virginia who died after being hit by an SUV that ran off the road. Four other children and two adults were injured in the accident. They were walking back from a school bus stop.
- a toddler in Aurora, Colorado who drowned in a pond at an apartment complex after he went missing.
- a 14-year-old in Monroe, Washington who drowned at Lake Tye while swimming with friends during a church outing.
- a 9-month-old in Tyler, Texas who drowned in a bathtub after being left in the tub with her 22-month-old sister and the drain open and shower on.
- a 7-year-old from New Jersey who drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Myrtle Beach.
- a 4-year-old from Bushkill, Pennsylvania who drowned while visiting the Lafayette Pond with his family.
- a 4-year-old in Phoenix, Arizona who drowned in a motel pool after getting 'lost in the crowd' while with family and friends.
- a 16-year-old from Scio, Oregon who drowned while rafting with friends on the McKenzie River.
- a 6-year-old from Kansas who drowned after wandering away from her family and falling into the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.
- a 13-year-old from Portland drowned at Klineline Pond in Vancouver, Washington while attending a large family gathering.
- a 16-month-old near Willis, Texas who drowned in a private lake across from his grandfather's home.
Keep your kids safe. Not all, but many of these types of accidents can be prevented.
Many of the accidents and tragedies are ones that we see week after week, especially drownings, falls, ATV accidents, accidental shootings, and even lawn mower accidents.
