This week's Saturday Safety Roundup includes stories of:

  • an 8-month-old in San Diego, California who died after he was attacked by at least one of three pit bulls in the family's home.
  • a 9-year-old Pacific County, Washington who was seriously injured after being shot in the chest by his 10-year-old brother who was doing target practice with a .22-caliber rifle.
  • a toddler who drowned on Lake Mead near the Las Vegas Boat Harbor after he had gone missing for about 45 minutes.
  • three young children who died in a fire that destroyed two mobile homes in Las Vegas.
  • a 3-year-old in Houston, Texas who drowned in a back yard swimming pool. Her father was mowing the lawn in the front of the house and found her in the pool.
  • a 12-year-old in Washington County, Virginia who was shot in the head while hunting groundhogs with his 15-year-old brother. He died at an area hospital.
  • a 2-year-old in St. Mary's, West Virginia who died after being attacked by two mixed-breed dogs in a neighbor's back yard.

  • a 14-year-old in Queens, New York who drowned at the beach. He was in a dangerous part of the water with his friends where there weren't any lifeguards, despite not being able to swim.
  • a 14-month-old in Rockwall, Texas who suffered second-degree burns on her feet after falling onto hot metal doors that lead to a fountain's underground water pumps while the family was on a picnic at a popular outdoor area of the city.
  • a 16-year-old and 12-year-old in Gilboa, New York who died when their ATV collided with a dump truck loaded with large rocks.
  • an 8-year-old in Owensboro, Kentucky who drowned while playing at a resort pool during a birthday party. He slipped out of an inflatable ring.
  • a 2-year-old in Louin, Mississippi who died after she crawled inside a car while playing outside with her sister. She was found dead inside the hot car a few hours later.
  • a 20-month-old in East Greenbush, New York who drowned in an above-ground swimming pool at her home.
  • a 5-year-old with autism in Bradenton, Florida who drowned in a retention pond behind her family's home. She had wandered out of the home through a sliding glass door.
  • a 16-year-old in Rowan County, North Carolina who died after he fell off his skateboard. He was not wearing a helmet and was riding at night, with the street being lit up by a friend driving behind him in his truck.
  • a 17-year-old in McAllen, Texas who died after a bullet he shot ricocheted off a butane tank and hit him in the head.
  • a 2-year-old in Spanish Fork, Utah who died in a house fire that may have been started by an overloaded power strip.
  • a 12-year-old in Odessa, Texas who died when his ATV flipped over an landed on him. He had just finished sixth grade. An 8-year-old who was riding with him was not injured.
  • a 2-year-old in Memphis, Tennessee who was critically injured by a pit bull terrier after the toddler had wandered into a neighbor's back yard.

Many of the accidents and tragedies are ones that we see week after week, especially drownings, falls, ATV accidents, accidental shootings, and even lawn mower accidents.
