New car seat guidelines will help to make sure your kids are safe when you are on the move and now, new safety standards for toddler beds will help to make sure your kids are safe at home too.

New mandatory toddler bed safety standards from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) call for:

  • guardrails that are at least five inches above the toddler bed's mattress
  • toddler bed spindle and slat strength testing that are consistent with the testing required for crib spindles and slats
  • separate warning labels to address entrapment hazards and strangulation hazards on toddler beds

The new safety standards for toddler beds will hopefully cut back on the injuries and deaths that are associated with the use of toddler beds. The CPSC reports that from 2005 to 2010, there were 122 incidents associated with toddler beds, including 43 injuries and 4 deaths.
