So why are all of these Fisher-Price toys and baby products being recalled?

The voluntary recall by Fisher-Price Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, is for a variety of reasons, including that:

  • there were 10 reports of injuries involving the Fisher Price Trikes and Tough Trikes toddler tricycles, including 6 incidents in which little girls between the ages of 2 to 3 years that required medical attention. The safety hazard can occur when a child strikes, sits or falls on the protruding pretend plastic ignition key key of the trike, which can result in serious injury, including genital bleeding.
  • the wheels can detach on the purple and green cars in the Little People Wheelies Stand 'n Play Rampway, which can pose a choking hazard to young children, although no injuries have been reported.
  • children can fall on or against the pegs on the rear legs of the Healthy Care, Easy Clean and Close to Me High Chairs, resulting in injuries or lacerations. There have been 14 reports of incidents involving these Fischer-Price high chairs, including 7 reports of kids needing stitches and a tooth injury.
  • there have been 46 reports of incidents of the valve coming off the inflatable ball included with the several Fischer-Price toys, including 14 reports of the valve being found in a child's mouth and 3 reports of a kids beginning to choke. The affected toys include the Baby Playzone Crawl & Cruise Playground, Baby Playzone Crawl & Slide Arcade, Baby Gymtastics Play Wall, Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Aquarium, 1-2-3 Tetherball, Bat & Score Goal.

All together, almost 11 million baby and child products have been recalled. Parents should check the Fisher-Price / Mattel product recall and advisory page for product numbers to see if you have any of the products in this Fisher-Price recall and how you can get the affected parts of the products replaced. Remember that you shouldn't let your kids use the recalled items until they are fixed. And keep in mind that the items in the Fisher-Price recall don't seem to qualify for a full refund.

Not all models of each product are recalled though. For example, for the Fischer-Price Hot Wheels Trike, your tricycle is only the Fischer-Price recall if it has model number J72633 (printed under the seat), and it has a protruding disc-shaped or D-shaped pretend key. If you have a Fischer-Price Hot Wheels Trike with a flattened D-shaped pretend key, then it isn't in the recall.

Contact Fisher-Price if you aren't sure if your product has been recalled and to learn how to get your repair kit.
