Abbott Laboratories Inc., the makers of Similac baby formula, is voluntarily recalling certain lot numbers of their powdered baby formula because there is a 'remote possibility' that they may contain small insect parts and beetle larvae.
The beetles were found in the production area of one of their manufacturing facilities that makes Similac. Fortunately, unlike the recent egg recall and the dangers of Salmonella infections, there is not thought to be any immediate health risk from infants drinking this Similac baby formula that might be contaminated. Gastrointestinal symptoms, such as a stomach ache or refusal to eat, are possible symptoms of eating recalled formula.
The Similac recall includes:
- all lots of Similac formula powder product lines offered in plastic containers, including 1.38-lb, 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb containers
- Similac Sensitive Isomil Soy - 12.4-oz cans - only lots numbers containing RB
- Similac Advance - 12.4-oz cans - only lots numbers containing RB
- certain lots of Similac formula powder product lines offered in sizes such as 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans
- Similac formula powder in 8-ounce sample cans that could have been given out in doctor's offices and hospitals
We have now posted the full list of Similac recall lot numbers for parents to search. Check to see if your Similac formula has been recalled.
The Similac recall does not affect Similac ready-to-feed or concentrated baby formula or any specialty baby formulas, such Similac Expert Care Alimentum or Similac Expert Care Neosure. Up to 5 million Similac-brand powder baby formulas that were sold in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and some Caribbean countries may be affected by the Similac recall though.
If you can get through to their web site, you can check which Similac recall lot numbers of formula are included at www.similac.com/recall or you can call Abbott's consumer hotline at (800) 986-8850. Recalled baby formula can be returned to Abbott. If you can't verify that your Similac baby formula hasn't been recalled and is safe, you might buy a new container of Similar powdered formula, as long as the store has removed all lots of recalled formula already, temporarily switch to a small size powder (0.6-oz singles), ready-to-feed, or concentrated Similac formula, or temporarily switch to another brand of formula.
Interestingly, there was an article in the New York Times this week - 'Waiter, There's Soup in My Bug,' that talks about a restaurant in Brooklyn that introduces 'New Yorkers to the succulent wonders of edible insects.' I don't know if beetles were on the menu, although beetles are usually considered to be edible. I guess we should be thankful they are recalling these lots of contaminated Similar formula and not charging parents extra for a new line of organic formula with extra protein.

how can u find out if what yr grandkids and kids are using if all of similac websites are down,,,,, kinda annoying,,, no answers
Wondering the same thing.
I guess it is comforting to know that the contamination doesn’t pose an immediate health risk, but it does leave us parents who use this formula very shaken. To think that a manufacturing facility has such an infestation and doesnt not seem to be up to code is very disconcerting. I am no longer able to breast feed my son as i was not able to breastfeed my daughter. I gave my daughter similac and she was and is a very healthy child so I felt similac was great choice when i could no longer breastfeed my son. it is appauling that Abbott as reputable as they have been could have let their facility be so careless. I am switching and not switching back!!
“I guess it is comforting to know that the contamination doesn’t pose an immediate health risk, but it does leave us parents who use this formula very shaken. ”
Of course parents are going to be very concerned when a baby formula is recalled. Since the risks are thought to be low, my goal was to try and not hype this recall and try to reassure parents as much as possible. Until we get more information, parents who are unsure if there formula was recalled will likely have to switch to a different brand of the same type of formula.
Sir,
I hope you have been informed of the severity of the problems associated with the contaminated formula. Low health risks? I firmly disagree. My infant could have died, if she didn’t go to the emergency room after ingesting the contaminated powder. I purchased contaminated formula from Walmart and CVS in December in metrowest Massachusetts. The recall was in September. Lo and behold there are now signs posted in the stores warning the public of the contaminated formula. Perfect timing- since my newborn ingested the toxic powder and spent her early days of her life in the emergency room. It is truly amazing that the doctors didn’t know about the recall and the severity of the problems including: vomiting, diarrhea, fever, low-blood pressure, cramps, difficulty breathing to name a few. Since ingesting the beetle parts and larvae my infant has suffered from severe cramping; curling her legs up to her chest in agony. She cried perfusely. Her diarrhea was constant. Her diaper rash looked like a burn. Her skin was peeling due to the acid. Each time she heard and observed me pulling the fasteners off her diaper she looked in fear anticipating the pain of her butt being touched. She cried uncontrollably when I had to put butt paste on her. Now that is a memory I will never forget. Additionally, she had blood in her stool, difficulty breathing, dehydration, didn’t want to eat, rash on her back. She cried perfusely. From my research, I am led to believe Similac knew of the contaminated formula and chose the ship the products. The scope of this problem is larger than it appears.
Nancy: Agreed! You would think that Abbott Labs would have its IT staff on hand right before it announced a recall. Now I don’t know what to do about morning bottle–go buy a new brand or not?
well its is very annoying I call hotline i get busy tone and i try a website and it unavaiable so how exactly am i suppose to find out if my cans are good or not? is the can form of fussiness for lactose?
A Similac rep told me that if your infant hasn’t been ill or sick then your batch probably isn’t contiminated but check the website anyway.
I completely agree with Nancy and Rachel. My son is on a speciality formula that comes thru pharmacy only however I have a friend that has twins and we have been tryin to look online and call the 800 numbers to see if what she has was recalled and cant get anywhere any way.. this makes me kind of glad that my sons not on it..
My 1 month old son has been having tummy issues and my doctor has had me trying different types of the similac brand formulas. I’m worried that it could be the cause of his discomfort, and how frustrating that the similac website is down!
Does anyone know if all Similac products are affected or just certain ones? My daughter is on Alimentum and it comes in a 16oz can, which isn’t mentioned above. When should the Abbott/Similac website be working?!
I AM SO UPSET! I FORTUNATELY KEEP MY CONTAINERS AND THE CONTAINER FROM TWO WKS AGO IS ALSO RECALLED. I HAVE BOUGHT A DIFFERENT KIND AND AM NEVER GOING TO USE THIS EVER AGAIN!
I have bought a ready to use loquid similac advance, and I am gonna ask the dr tomorrow if it is OK to switch to a different brand …i was using similac organic and would like to continue an organic formula, but I only know of earth’s best to offer organic formula and it is not sold in the stores in my area. I hate this !
Interestingly their website is down. So I don’t know if our infant is getting extra protein or not.
My little girl has also been having bad tummy issues and I’ve had to change her formula 3 times. Does anyone know when the website will be working so I can find out if her cans were infected? Luckily I still have all of them so I can check the codes. I’m half tempted to switch from Similac all together. They are going to have some very upset moms and probably lose a lot of business. Accidents happen but COME ON ABBOTT!! These are our INFANTS we’re talking about!!
HEY JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW I JUST WENT TO PUBLIX AND THEY SAID THAT SIMILAC IS GOING TO RECALL THE LIQUID AS WELL BY TOMORROW… DONT BUY IT! I TRIED!
does anyone know the lot numbers that are contaminated? website is down and busy tones!!
this is b.s…we will never buy there product again….
Nancy I agree also. Websites are down and phone lines are busy so how can we find out whats going on??????? Wondering wat to do about my baby’s milk!
I HAVENT HAD TROUBLE WITH THE WEBSITE.. IT JUST TOOK A WHILE TO LOAD… I WAS ABLE TO LOOK UP THREE DIFFERENT CONTAINERS..
My daughter will be a year in a week she has been on similac advanced for almost the whole year! she has never had a problem with it until the last week she has been screaming with stomach pain and spitting up A LOT.. i wonder if i have bad formula.. i am so worried!! I tried calling the 800 number a million times and getting on the recall page but the phone is busy and the page wont open!!!! SIMILAC if your going to have a page … MAKE SURE IT WORKS!!!!! their are so many concerned parents out there and we are all left clueless !!!
Great…I get frmula from WIC. They require that you get only Similac-Now what do I do? I just gpt wic a week or 2 ago and my 4month old has been having diarreaha for the first time since she was born-she was formally on Parents choice(walmart) and did fine. I only switched because of wic:(
IF U WOULD LIKE I CAN TRY TO LOOK IT UP FOR U…
I was able to check lot #’s earlier, and found both of my cans were on the list. My poor daughter has been very fussy and refusing to eat this week… I hate to think of how much of this I have fed her if this was the cause!
I just got through to the phone number by hitting redail and waiting through the hold music once i got past the busy signal (about 10 minutes). Our 3 plastic containers of Similac Sensitive (Orange Box) are on the recall list. The customer relations person said that lot numbers of our formula [Sensitive] which contain a “T2″ or an “RB” are on the recall list (there might be others so be sure to check).
um its funny my 10 month old son for two weeks now been poop a lot ever time i change his diaper there poop in it and not nice poop he on similac for sensitive i know there was a stomach bug going around now i re thinking maybe this is his problem which they could did the recall early most store at my town are close great ! JOB similac
Are you kidding me? No website.. no ring tone for the hotline.. My daughter had diarrhea for a week.. I’m afraid she had bad formula but can I check to see.. nope sure can’t.. ughhh
503 Server error from similac. 98% chance that means they simply pulled the site down… For a voluntary recall, they sure know how to piss parents off and destroy Abbott stock.
Good luck when markets open tomorrow – I’m thinking I should short some futures before my shower in the morning…
-Proud parent
baby’s crying for formula now….. he takes the for fussiness and gas lactose sesitivity….. pretty ticked right now …. what do you do?
me and my kids are poor so i buy the formula with the guvment stamps. then somebodys says theys bugs in it and i says no matter me and my kids eat bugs alredy. you mite think i am a bad mom but them bugs is good to eat and theys plenty of em in our neighborhood
I’M SO SORRY D- I SURE HOPE YOU CAN GET SOME FROM SOMEWHERE OPEN… GOOD LUCK!!!
This stuff is made in China. Goes to show how much there Quality standards shine.
yes this is very disturbing, wic only provides similac to infants and i really hope they change brands now that they have this recall. i cant get through to the hotline or website either so alot of help abbots been to their customers. now i have to borrow money just to make sure my sons not gunna get sick ridiculous!!!!!
Does anyone know how to find out which lot numbers are being recalled?? Im worried and their phones are busy and websites down.. I need to know before I give it to her again. Someone please let us moms know instead of telling us without answers!!
Very frustrated, can’t obtain the recall lot numbers, the website is down and the hotline number doesn’t go thru…what to do?
Can someone look up lot # 89258T20
I can’t get on the site
Per one of CNN’s articles found here:
“The recall includes certain Similac powder product lines that come in 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce, and 12.9-ounce cans. Abbott liquid formula is not a part of the recall”.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/09/22/baby.formula.recall/
SERIOUSLY SARA! REALLY FUNNY!!!
Does anyone know how far back this issue goes? We have had issues with my daughter for 7 months, and cannot find any reason why. In fact we just got back from the hospital so they could do biopsies on her stomach and esophagus. We recently switched to Nestle Good Start but am curious to know how long it affects you if you have been contaminated.
No luck on the 800 or website.
If anyone can load the website, will you please check out these lot numbers for me:
90337T20
89260T20
I have been trying to call and load the website for over an hour! Frustrating!
Jill ~
Which lot numbers did you have so we can get some what of an idea which numbers are getting recalled?
We sincerely apologize for the site difficulties we are currently experiencing at http://www.similac.com. We are working diligently to resolve the issues and expect to have it resolved soon. Please check back later to determine if you have any of the impacted powder product and arrange for return and reimbursement. Thank you for your patience. ~Similac Team

LUCINDA ~

My six month old son is having GI symptoms and not taking his feed for last 48 hours.. Just found out about this recall.. guess what the website is down, the recall line is busy and my doctor is unaware of the recall.. Asked me to change the formula..( this is nightmare) Hubby has gone out to get some..
So frustrated!!!!!
I have been using similac organic for the last two months. I buy the containers in bulk since they are hard to find and ALL of them are recalled. The lady at the grocery store said they are recalling all similac powders (despite what kind) just as a precaution…but I don’t really know if that is accurate or not. All I know is I have 10 containers of the organic and every one of them is recalled! I bought some ready-to-feed similac advance until I can get more answers and talk to the doctor about it tomorrow. Ugh, this totally sucks my poor baby has been drinking that nastiness for two months!
I also have tried both the phone line and the web site but nothing. This is just flat out pittiful that the parents that are worried cant get the info needed. You would think if these people wanted to keep the business they have they would make it a point to satisfy their customers. If not this could mean a lawsuite. We just changed to a diffrent type of their formula this week per the dr.’s say because of him throwing up and fussieness. Was this due to the formula is this why he is still fussy. PARENTS NEED ANSWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also get WIC for my baby’s formula. For the last month she has kept diarreaha and has been very fussy and gassy. I thought it was because she was cutting teeth but I think it was this bad formula. She will be 8 months old in a few days and I am going to go ahead and put her on whole milk. I think its 200 percent safer than formula. If one company has bad formula and bad cleaning habits makes you wonder about all the others. Infant formula is a big joke…wish i could have continued breast feeding her but milk dried up…At least one really knows breast milk is safe.
“This stuff is made in China. Goes to show how much there Quality standards shine.”
The affected manufacturing plant is actually in Sturgis, Michigan.
The recall includes formula in plastic containers as well – I’m not sure if it includes single packs or not.
I have used Similac for all 4 of my children. I have an 8 month old, and CANNOT GET THROUGH VIA PHONE OR WEBSITE to determine if our particular lot has been recalled. I am EXTREMELY disappointed by how unprepared Abbot seems to be at handling this recall. I will now SWITCH to another brand!!!
Anyone know if Similac Organic lot # 92617T20…can get through the website or phone number.
This is a disgrace!! I’m steady calling the 800 # & it’s either busy or disconnected & the website is down! This is so annoying & frustrating!!
Gina- I posted the link a little further up, it is moms who have gotten through to Abbott and are compiling a list of what they know is good or bad
can anyone look up 87995RE? cant get through…
Thanks George! I couldn’t get through to either the site or the hotline and read your comment. My sons formulas lot # has a t2 in it! I cant believe this!! I am so upset… I take extra measures for my son to be safe: wash my hands before I or anyone else touches him, wash the toys he plays with, and feed him the similac sensitive for his upset stomach and spit up and here I am feeding him this formula thats making it worse for him!!! I am more angry/disgusted than I’ve ever been!!!!!
is similac sensitive 90333T20 recalled?
My son was eating 8 oz. at each feeding, about three weeks ago he started taking more around 3 oz. and we didn’t know why. This morning, he took only 2 and then refused to eat his breakfast. Makes me think there is a link right?
I was able to get through the website. SIMILAC ADVANCED 89237T20 IS RECALLED. (Our containers…… UGH!)
Sent husband out to pick up liquid kind and will ask the pediatrician about switching brands.
We are VERY disappointed. We trusted this company and their product.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE POST!!!!
wth?! my son is 8 months old and i’m trying to find out if the brand new box we bought today is good…. He uses Similac Sensitive Isomil Soy Brand… UGH! cant the website or phone number work?!?!?!?!?!
I cant believe this.. my newborn baby boy has tried different kinds of similac cause it wasnt agreeing with him. and finally I have him on similac sensitive and now this recall crap… Im on wic and this is the only brand they offer.
NEVER AGAIN SIMILAC!!!! if you cant notice bugs crawling around in your factory then you have problems.. I have a feeling the #1 selling brand of formula, you just lost your luster!!! Enfamil here we come!
I would hope that parents and grandparents agree with me on the fact that regaurdless of what these people say, this is very dangerous!! Beetles along with many insects carry many differant deseases. and I gaurentee you all the makers would not give a second thought to continue the product for their family member…
Just read on another post…someone got through the Abbott phone line and they said that any lot # with RD or T2 is recalled.

85261T2 – Sensitive RS was recalled. Has 4 of them…that’s all I have.
If RB or T2 is printed on the can it is recalled. I just talked to the 800# and he said those are the ones on the recall
92617T20 has been RECALLED!
I agree with the others. How are you supposed to get through when the website is shut down and there’s constantly a busy tone?? I think that is ridiculous!!! Now i dont know what to do about feeding my son. I have no money to go get formula @ the moment and no way to the store and I really dont want to feed him this similac now that i dont know if it’s contaminated!
For the last few weeks, my son has been having severe diarrhea. We took him to doctor after doctor and it was assumed he had developed a milk allergy. We switched to Similac Soy Isomil, and I found out via the website (after several tries) that BOTH containers of formula (both the advance, and the soy that we have) may possibly be contaminated. To know that my son MAY have been sick because his formula was contaminated sickens me. Now I can’t figure out how to return the recalled formula because the website doesn’t work!
Does anyone want me to look up the numbers if your not getting in?
does any one want me to look up a number???
http://similac.com/recall/lookup.aspx
I was able to get to the site on my cell phone. FYI.
This is horible and uncalled for….As a new mom, this makes me scared for my baby and I will no longer use your product and will be switching to a new formula today.
it really stressful to not be able to get the help you need in this kinda situation the line just keeps on being busy that s terrible us moms need to see how to go about handling this gross error
@Kayla

Can someone please check lot 90401T20 Similac Sensitive Isomil Soy 1.45 LB if you can get access? Thanks.
Just tried the website and my cans are recalled. The last 4 cans all on recall. This bites. Does anyone know how long they have had these issues?
My little one has been suffering all week and I just thought it was the transition to cereal. Thanks to all those who have taken the time to list the recalled numbers. You did not have to do this and your time is greatly appreciated! My husband is off to the store……
How can you find out if you have contaminated containers of formula or not??? The hotline #is busy and the similac recall website is down!! Just ck the lot numbers….. how?HOW FRUSTRATING!!!
Agree with the other comments. There should be more access to parents to find out what containers were recalled. I have tried the hot line and the website. Website is down and hotline is busy. Dear Similac, will you loose this customer?
Sensitive lot 88105T0 Bought at Costco was recalled.
So annoying!! My newborn baby has been having diarreah and stomache problems for weeks since I switch her to Similac. Now going to try Target brand similar to Similac. Hope that agrees with her…. Too afraid to use the liquid from Similac. Who knows maybe that will have bugs too…..

I use Similac Advance blue label, birth -12 months in the 1.45lb tub and it has been recalled. lot number 90396t20. I just found out after my so finished it and he has been fine.
This is pathetic. Can’t get on website, can’t call. I tend not to panic. But, I agree parents need answers. We keep the old containers to recycle in bulk. If a lawsuit occurs, they are only doing it to themselves.
Can someone check lot# 89227T20 for recall? THANKS
Can someone look up 89227T20 please??
I am so upset.. No wonder my son is so sick for last three days.. 89312T20 is on recall list.. I can not believe I was feeding him that nasty stuff.. I am way upset!!!!!!!
Can someone please, please, please check:
83097T2 0232
I’m infuriated!! Exactly…I can’t log onto the Similac website and the hotline is busy…what are we supposed to do now?? I’m getting angrier by the minute and I want answers. What is going to happen now?? The production area gets fumigated then all the formula is contaminated because of the insect chemicals? I guess I’m forced to switch brands. I can’t trust Similac now.
KAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
89227T20 IS RECALLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just finally got through to the phone number, and then had to wait on hold for twenty minutes! Found out my container is recalled, 92585T20. The way this is being handled is completely unacceptable! My husband is on his way to the store to pick some Enfamil!

http://similac.com/recall/lookup.aspx
Try this.
It worked for me. I think the guy who put this up forgot to put the lookup part at the end.
My daughter has been spittin up for the formula for a while!
Omg! I should have figured something was wrong.
I thought she was just teething or something. Ugh.
So did they just recall it this morning???
So now that I am going to switch formulas. What is the best formula out there?

I agree with you Lisa! I do not believe that there is not a health risk! I know people eat bugs, but those are usually people that are raised on it or the bugs are bred in a clean environment that are meant to be eaten and their body can handle it. Obviously these were NOT bugs that were made for people to eat, they were an infestation. Our kids are not adapted to eat bugs. Just like people that are from Mexico can drink the water with no problem but if someone that is not from there drinks it they get sick! Its the same thing!
This is most disgusting! Our baby has been having stomach issues, tummy aches, very loose stools, spitting up, terrible gas since coming home 8 weeks ago? Many doctor visits. Taking meds to try make him feel better. And now I just checked all my formula and it is all on the recall. So I get my money back for containers contaminated who is going to reimburse me for all the doctor visits and days off from work to take him to the doctor. And seriously these are infants we are feeding beetles to and you are telling us it can cause upset stomachs and digestive problems but not a health issue. Now come on!!
Unbelievable. My 11 month old has been on this since he was a month old and has had such watery stool the last 2 weeks! I wonder if this is why???? UGGGHHH Both my new containers are recalled- I wonder if previous ones have been too!

88112t20 is recalled. I was told anything with a t2 is recalled.. You will all love this, my BFF is at Target right now and you can’t can’t return the formula. You have to fill out a form on similac’s website and they will mail you a label and then send you a check within 3-4 weeks! I am so mad! My baby has been pooping much more than normal and it’s green looking which is weird! She also has gotten a horrible diaper rash (she has never had before) and it gets worse when she poops.. it starts to get better when she only pees a few times but as soon as she poops it gets blood red.. What a mess!! I do not like similac right now!

my son drinks ELECARE he is TUBEFED and he had VERY WEIRD POOP that looked like it had BUGS in it I am trying to get an email address to send the picture to Similac and have not been able to get through. Even though Elecare is not on the list I want answers since he had very weird poop, and respiratory distress the symptoms lasted two days the amount of time it takes for him to go through a can of formula and then he was better.

can anyone tell me if 90672re6 is recalled?
People keep saying it doesnt pose a health risk.. But i believe it does as my 10 week old was just released for the second time in three weeks from the hospital. The 2nd time she was there for five days. She was screaming in pain constantly and had diarrhea and vomitting, because of this she got sevearly dehydrated. My daughter was on IV fluid for 5 days and a heart monitor. She had high levels of patassium which causes cardiac arythmia! very serious. Both times she was admitted they couldnt get the IV into her tiny veins, so they had to inject fluid into her back muscle for a few hours until they eventually got a vein. This is a very painfull procedure. My poor baby now has a UTI from the diarrhea and is having her blood drawn everyday to check her patassium levels. I now have to give my baby antibiotics which are not good at this young age. This was the most traumatising thing i have ever been thru and cant imagine what it did to my baby girl. Please take your baby to the ER if they are showing any symptoms of a tummy bug!! If you change the formula you should she an improvement in a day or so.
DANIELLI !!!!!!!

where is the numbers located at
**IBOOTON**
I couldnt agree with you more…I really think my daughter got salmonella from this formula and hearing about this recall really makes me believe it. She was a mess for 2 months and had to go to the dr often, then see a gastro specialist too because her digestive system was a mess. This isnt something to mess around with it at…dont go thru what we had to go thru…take your baby in
Out of the codes that I entered the ones that end in t20 are all recalled. I have a couple other codes that end in other characters and they are good.
Just went to the store to get the liquid… Sold out..

91435t20 Similac Sensitive in the white tub has been recalled.
I just went to our local Meijer’s store and they have already pulled all the white tub formula. They have some of the liquid options available… I bought three bottles – who knows how long it’ll be before we can buy a new batch again. I’d really hate to switch formula since we had such a tough time getting our little guy to settle on one that he could eat without problems… I’m praying they get this straightened out. He did have an upset tummy last week but we thought it was from switching nipples to level 2 for his bottles. Makes me wonder!
SO GLAD THE CANT RECALL MY BREST MILK
just got off the phone with similac and similac sensitive with the lot #s 87931T20 IS AFFECTED & they told me that the plastic containers are most affected also if there is an RE in the lot # it is NOT affected.. the container i have that is affected i bought 2-3 months ago & gave my baby 5 other containters already that i bought at the same time as the 1 i have left.. hope this helps out for those who still havent got through keep trying though & its a real person who talks to youit will ring then a message will play & it will ring again once then a long pause of silence til someone picks up i held for about 10 mins
please does anyone one if 88229RE6 has been recalled?? The website wont load cause its so busy and the number is busy.. Please help again its 88229RE6.. Thank you
My daughter has been using Alimentum and has recently been refusing to eat, screaming with stomach pain and spitting up a lot. I don’t trust that any of their formula is safe right now. I switched brands, and my personal opinion is that everyone should, just to be on the safe side.
can someone check 86915RE6
I still don’t have a full list of lot numbers for recalled Similac formula, but it seems like the following types of formula may be affected by the recall:
* Similac Advance – 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb
* Similac Advance EarlyShield – 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb
* Similac Sensitive – 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb
* Similac Isomil Advance – 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb
* Similac Sensitive Isomil Soy – 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb
* Similac Organic – 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb
* Similac Organic and Similac Advance Organic – 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb
* Similac Sensitive R.S. – 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb
* Similac Sensitive for Spit-Up – 1.45-lb and 2.12-lb
* Similac Go & Grow – 1.38-lb
* Similac Go & Grow EarlyShield – 1.38-lb
* Similac Go & Grow Soy – 1.38-lb
Of course, you still have to get through to the Similac recall site to see if you have a recalled lot of formula, but that seems to be getting easier now.
I called my grocery store they had everybrand of similac that was recalled and the lot numbers
I live in Vermont…..My lot number is 88194RB6….it has been recalled, after my son has finished all 7 cans I got from WIC 22 days ago. He seems okay, but thanks government for the notice, I found this by accident!!

just bought 9 0f the larger cans of similac rs for my grandson and all are contaminated. It sickens me to know that my 6 month grandson ws eating contaminated milk, if you are that careless with bugs in the work area, what else goes into our babies milk that we don’t know
Thanks erica2005
My daughter has been vomitting and diaherra the last week and all of mine is on recall – this is HORRIBLE- I will be switching brands and will never use similac- we are feeding our babies this? Good luck at the store getting the liquid – it is all gone and you will stand with tons of other parents wondering what to do – This is a health risk and Similac will pay big for this one!
Try a mac the website will come through it will show up and one can check all the numbers you want. Arizona pulled all Similac from the shelves
Mine were also recalled. My daughter has been very fussy lately and spitting up all the time. She never had a problem with spitting up until recently. I thought she may have been cutting a tooth and actually gave her a little bit of tylenol tonight, also my friend is having the same problem. Back to Enfamil, never again will I use similac.
Hi,
Does any one know if these items have been recalled.

My son has been having the symptoms of refusing food, spitting up, not swallowing, and belly aches… Can someone please help me out.
Katie
I am trying to find out if there is any info about the bugs, stomach problems, and how long the symptoms will last/affect the baby.
We are all reporting the same symptoms. My cans were recalled (3/4 of the way through one with him), and the stomache started Sat. night, crying in pain, LOTS of spit up, MANY poops (when there is usually just one).
We switched his reflux meds Mon thinking his other brand was no longer working.
I feel terrible for my little man.
had to run out at 1100 at night to find replacements for the contaminated of similac my son had been eating. that’s ridiculous
I AM SO DISGUSTED RIGHT NOW! I HAD NO IDEA UNTIL MY MOM CALLED ME FROM SAVANNAH TO TELL ME. WATCHING THE FOX 5 IN DC AND NO REPORT. THIS IS ALOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHATS HAPPENING WITH AMERICAN IDOL. My daughter has been having tummy problems and a lack of apetitie for about 3 weeks now. I toke her to the doctors and they said its because she is teething. ITS PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THE SIMILAC. VERY ANGRY RIGHT NOW!
Lot # 92096RE NOT RECALLED!

This is sooooo ridicolous I really wonder how much our babies have been consuming this product before similac decided to put a recall out on it.

Thank god the formula I have is not recalled but that doesnt account for the ones he’s already ate and Ive thrown away dont know if they were recalled now do I????!!!!Im switching this is BS Thank god my son turns one in January and no more formula!
A couple lot numbers coming out of Cedar Rapids are

86899RE6
NOT RECALLED
i think they may be wrong though because my 3 month old in the last week when i went out and got my formula has been spiting up at least half of her 6oz soon or shortly after she eats them. I wish they would have had a better eye on their manufacturing facility. Especially when it comes to so many little lives they shouls feel ashamed.
But good luck to anyone who has recalled items, prayers are with you and your little ones. If anyone need a number i can try and help will pry be on for a little bit longer.
Will they have a lawsuit against similac for making our children so sick ???????
My son takes the Sensitive Isomil Soy. Does anybody have any idea what other brand name would be equivalent to the Similac Sensitive Isomil Soy? I just bought the 1.45lb container and its recalled. Im a college student and have homework due in the morning and exams ontop of that and im so behind right now…I need to drive 20 minutes out of my town to go to a store and “guess” a different brand of formula for my 3 month old. Its midnight and i havent even started to study. My son is already is colicy and has reflux…I dont think I can handle anything else so im afraid to try anything new. Please let me know what formula would be easy on his belly.
I WAS WONDERING IF ANY ONE EVER READS
TO SEE WHAT FORMULA IS MADE OUT OF ITS PRETTY BAD.
THEY ADD ALL KINDS OF VITAMIN AND SOY AND POWDER
COWS MILK LOTS BUT BY THE TIME UR
DONE MAKEING THE BOTTLE HALF OF ITS LOST
DID YALL KNOW FORMULA DOES NOT HAVE COLESTERO

Stacy, before you posted that comment, did you ever stop to think that some people can not breastfeed. My baby aspirates her formula and has to have thickened feeds, she has to take formula. Breastfeeding is the best way, but sometimes can not be done, please think of the issue here, rather than trying to bash people for using formula.
Ashley parents choice from wal mart has all of the mocks of similac – I am switching to that!
I agree this is a lil messed up that they can sell something that they dont check enough to make sure that are babies, grandkids, stepkids etc, is going to be ok! An we trusted you from the botten of our hearts to feed an make them grow up healthy an to know that you are really going to make them sick you should be disapointed with yourself as a bussines, company, a on going generation you should go ahead an end it now!!!! I would like to see you win all of your buyers back! (just don’t see it)
Stacy thank god you are lucky enough to be able to do the whole breastfeeding thing. Honestly unless you are trying to help these moms you have no need to be giving your input. Just because WE and OUR babies were not able to blessed doesn’t mean we care about them less sometimes brestfeeding isnt an option. So you should really rethink whatever you have to say the next time you decide to post.
lot # 88164T20 is RECALLED I just recently bought 18 containers!
@Jason. my containers are#88165T20 so im one number off from yours and have not been able to find out anything!!! ;/
Toria, that number is recalled.
Actually, I am sure that Abbott has had IT staff on this and is doing it’s absolute best to handle the volume, but nobody can really be prepared to handle such a situation. There was also a severe thunderstorm (evacuation, seek shelter in the basement and all) that went through Columbus, OH this afternoon, where Abbott Nutrition is headquartered and there were subsequent power losses – this cannot have helped the situation. Ultimately neither technology nor people are perfect. My Dr reassured me that it’s not really a huge issue, said his son has probably eaten worse in the family backyard, and I would be okay to feed through. I for one still respect that Abbott still chose to voluntarily recall the formula, even though the FDA did not require it. Yes, I’ll be on the lookout for any new stomach issues, but let’s be reasonable here.
as a recently laid off employee of Abbott..I would boycott their products! only used the formula cause I got 30% off..lot of good that did me..now Im stuck with 18 plastic containers
SORRY MY SITE TO LOOK UP IS DOWN I WOULD SAY CALL WAL MART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
87850T20 is one of the lot number that took me about half an hour to get info for. It has been recalled…there’s about 4 scoops left in the container. I’m ticked. Anyone know any other lot numbers?
now its midnite and I have to make a run to the supermarket to buy formula..KEEP TRYING the WEBSITE..it eventually worked..if you can’t return it to the store as Im sure most of us do not keep our receipts, they can send you a shipping label if you put in your info to send your product back..someone needs to wake up their IT team and get them out of bed and fix their site- maybe Miles White should be answering the phone at his house
New Similac Website to track Lot #s:
http://similac.com/recall/lookup.aspx
“We sincerely apologize for the site difficulties we are currently experiencing at http://www.similac.com. We are working diligently to resolve the issues and expect to have it resolved soon. Please check back later to determine if you have any of the impacted powder product and arrange for return and reimbursement. Thank you for your patience. ~Similac Team”
Here’s an idea: Post the affected lot members here and notify all stores that sell it about the affected lot numbers and all media instead of telling parents to check back later. I know one thing, if I ran a store and I saw you doing what your doing, I’d pull all Similac off the shelves and post signs that you were making it hard for parents to find out what formulas were affected.
By the way, I’m not even a parent.
picked the wrong week to quit using Enfamil
screw similac, i’m changing brands whether i have recalled formulas or not, this is my first child and the doctors look at my girlfriend like she is a over protective mother when we mention that our baby girl is sick, and now we know why she hasn’t been keeping food down, and being agitated, or fussy
I like many others can’t get through. Opend new container yesterday. Son started to get extra extra fussy after his formula supplement, but, not after moms milk. Now we may know why
We have Similac Organic # is 87879T21
anyone know if that is recalled?
Thanks.
yes..I would like one case of the vegan formula, no beetles thanks!

Troy, I already checked that one for you, it is recalled.
Troy, that is recalled, sorry.
We understand this is frustrating and want to let you know we’re working around the clock to get you the details you need, since we know you’ve experienced challenges getting through to our site and phone line. While we’re increasing call center resources and expanding the bandwidth of our site, you can use this rule of thumb: If you have Similac brand powder in a rectangular, plastic tub, it IS part of the recall. If you have liquid infant formula, it is NOT part of the recall. If you have powder in cans, please continue trying to reach us with your lot number(s).
If you have a product impacted by this recall, please discontinue use of it immediately. You’ll need to visit a local store to purchase a Similac liquid product or alternative infant formula to feed your baby. We very much appreciate your continued patience. ~Similac Team
My poor wife is mentally beating herself up because she isn’t producing enough milk and hwe have to supplement with formula, and now this…
Everyone hang in there…
90669RE6 is NOT RECALLED
I was able to get on the website, and will as soon as I can gather product codes will provide a list of recalled formula.
My baby is on similac and of course I want to make ure that my 4 containers of formula are not on the list. But, seriously, did anyone read the real recall? There is a “remote possibility” of contamination. They found a few beetles in the mfg facility and recalled the lots as a precaution. They are still not sure if they are contaminated. I am concerned but would not go as far to say I will never buy similac again. Aside from website issues and phone issues, I think this has been handled well. There are no serious health issues, and if your child is experiencing tummy aches, give them something for it! Abbott, in my opinion, has been very responsible in the whole thing. And FYI, the facility that the recall is for is in Michigan, not china like someone said.
I have a Mac and the website is try this, http://similac.com/recall/lookup
The really disappointing thing is I have a 7 week old and I just finished using the can of formula I got from the hospital when I had her and guess what? It’s been RECALLED!!! How convenient. My baby hasn’t had a bowel movement in 2 1/2 days and she’s been eating less now that I think about it. Can’t believe this fricken company!

Seems as if Abbott webserver is down or cannot process the request. Please use the following links to bypass the front end servers. Good Luck!
IMPORTANT READ THIS!!!! Here is the new website that WORKS!!! stage.similac.com/recall
Notice is says “stage” instead of “www”
After looking up your lot number, if it is recalled, click “consumer” and follow all directions to be reimbursed. KEEP THE PACKAGE because they will send you a mailer to mail it in to them.
Also, alternate numbers to call. The LAST one worked for me:

800-545-5216
800-515-7677
800-986-8800

I am absolutely disguisted right now. I breastfeed but have to supplement some when I work because my milk supply is not as well as I would like it to be and I have noticed that my son refuses to eat as much when I feed him formula. I have been quite worried about it, but just thought that it may be because I was introducing new foods like bannanas and such. I will no longer use Simalac. I do not trust a company who has been so careless as to poison the food that our blessed children are consuming. I think Simalac needs to head the warning that possible law suits are coming.
Yes they did the right thing by recalling, but as for the safety of future products by Similac, I do not trust them and will be switching formulas, no matter if WIC covers them or not. I will gladly spend money out of my pocket to provide supplemental food for my son when I am unable to breastfeed.
We all need to stand together on this and protest using their products. It will serve them right, for causing so much distress to our little ones.
Well this is very irratating.. My son is 15 days old and I had him on Similac Ready-To-Feed Formula and he was fine. A friend of mine had a baby 2 months ago and was given Similac Advance 8oz can from the hospital… She gave it to me as a gift.. Hes been using it for the last week. He drank his last bottle from the can 1 hour before they showed the recall on the news. Come to find out.. The can is on the recall list and its already EMPTY.. Needless to say, i’m going to try and switch him to Enfamil Newborn.

BOTH OF THOSE ARE RECALLED!!
Mirza, those lots are both RECALLED..sorry. !
T20 at the end of all my cans are recalled. Returned with receipt and was able to get a full refund. Customer service said I would have to send back to them for refund and I did not.
P.S. For the people that want to say things about how we should be breast feeding, please be consideriate. We ADOPTED our 4 month old daughter and breast feeding was not a option. Other parents have different reasons to not breast feed. We do our best to provide the best we can for our babies. If you are able to breast feed that is great (I did it with my 3 biological children) If not then DON’T put us down for it.

i have been looking at other formulas and parents choice organic is nearly identical to similac organic, the only exception is the amount of manganese, 15 micrograms in parents choice vs 5 micrograms in similac
also, earth’s best organic is comparable to similac organic

new parents just brought our son home and given the product by hospital i was able to go on the website and the product is recalled, its kind of ironic after all the test and poking and suggested treatmnets the one thing they give you to so possibly help him to be strong and healthy is contaminated with bugs, luckily we have good friends who told us about the recall, sign of the times what or who can u trust today, oh yeah Abbott Nutrition, thanks for the gift

I totally agree. Same for my fiancé and I. I was very unhappy when I found out we had to give our son formula because he wasn’t getting enough and wouldn’t latch. So I mixed with similac ready to feed and he was fine. I used the powder and he was very unhappy, come to find out it’s on the recall list. I just fed him Enfamil Newborn mixed with breast milk and he loves it. If you’re thinking of switching brands as I did, I recommend Enfamil.
My son is 7 months old and on Similac advance and I just found out the new can of formula we bought is recalled and the old can we just used is recalled too… I feel awful because he has been waking up screaming… I just assumed it was his teeth hurting him but now I think it was the formula… What should I do for his morning bottle…? I’m on WIC… This is exasperating… How could someone not notice this before now…? I have trusted this company for years because my brothers used the same formula when they were my son’s age… This is so annoying… And the fact that we can’t get through to the hotline and the site is shut down makes matters worse… My older sister just had a baby two weeks ago and we don’t know if her formula is recalled or not… My son can at least have juice and baby food but what about my niece…? Also my other sister had a baby 3 months ago and she hasn’t been able to find anything out either… This is a disgrace… We all are worrying mothers, fathers, and grandparents what are we supposed to do to find out something… We cannot continue to give our kids this formula if it is contaminated…
I know we are all protective parents here, but there is a lot of fear mongering and misinformation going on here. Here is some real information, not just what is being spouted by people making wild claims.
First, the website is not down. The link that most news sites are posting is simply wrong. The site is http://similac.com/recall. It is NOT http://www.similac.com/recall. The www version does not work. If you just time similac.com/recall into your browser it will work just fine.
Second, this is not a mandated FDA recall. This is a voluntary recall made by Abbott. This wasn’t a case of a surprise FDA inspection. This was the facility finding out there was a POTENTIAL problem and acting on it. This wasn’t a case of insects being found in the product, but insects being found in a part of the facility that makes the product. The likelihood that any product was contaminated is minimal. So far there have been no FDA reports published stating that insect parts or larvae were found in the recalled product, only that it is possible.
Third, as stated on all official statements, this recall affects ONLY powder products made on a single line at a single plant. Some retailers are pulling all powder product until they know for sure their batches are unaffected. But many are spreading misinformation. It is only certain batches that are affected. ABSOLUTELY NO LIQUID IS AFFECTED. The Sturgis Michigan plant that produced the recalled product does not manufacture any liquid formula.
Finally, to the person commenting that Abbott products are made in china and have poor quality, that is just idiotic. Abbott baby formula sold in the US is made in the US. It is made in Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, and Arizona. Making stupid comments like that does nothing to help worried parents.
Aparently my previous post was filtered out for some reason, probably length so I am going to make this short and sweet.
Before everyone gets worked up into a tizzy and blames every little symptom their child has on this recall, remember a few things. This was not an FDA mandated recall, but a problem Abbott recognized and took action on their own. The FDA has not announced that any bugs or bug larvae were found in Similac products, Only that bugs were found in the facility that had a small chance of coming into contact with product. As of now this appears to be a precautionary recall, not a forced recall because tainted product was found. Last, this recall is for POWDER ONLY that came from a single line at Abbott’s Sturgis plant. Liquid is in no way affected by this recall. The Sturgis plant does not manufacter any liquids.
I am in no way an abbott spokes person, but I felt the need to calm some people down. I know it is easy to get worked up over your childs safety, but please make informed decisions and do not jump to conclusions. Making wild accusations on line does nothing to help anyone in this matter.
What is wrong with these people! For weeks my baby has been having all of these symptoms & we were told it’s because he’s teething! There are some very serious law suites on the way! This has been covered up for way too long! Like Scott said the government is trying to kill us & now our babies! Something needs to be done about this!!!
I recently switched my son back over to Enfamil about a week ago because the Smiliac was giving him diarhea and he was eating VERY little. I even brought him into to the ER because he was completely inconsolable, they told me he may be allergic to something in the formula. Turns out we had the recalled containers, I guess he was allergic to beetles! I am relieved he is feeling much better now that we switched formula. I am just wondering if this will affect his health in the long run.
Was able to finally get thru to the website and my can is recalled the lot # ia 91481T20 It is th orange 1.45# can for sensitive
I talked to my doc tonight and she said that she doesnt think it could be causing the tummy issues and the throwing up and stuff. she thinks it could be an allergy to a protein or something in the similac formula…..REALLY? I find it hard to believe that all these parents are having the same problems with their babies and its because of an allergy, not because of the fact that those with recalled product are having the same issues with their babies. Class action lawsuit will be coming, you better believe that! We need to stick together. anybody know a good lawyer?
This is crazy…. My son is now 6 months old and for about the last 4 months we have had nothing but stomach problems with him…. Doctor visit after doctor visit medicine after medicine…. Now I wonder has this been my sons problem all this time…. This is absurd.. I have used similac with all my children but he just seemed like somthing wasent sitting right late nights crying, screaming, spitting up, throwing up, doubling over out of the blue, painful screams for a couple mins ….. I will not use similac any more so no I do not want to trade in the two contaminated tubes sitting infront of me for another similac product I want a full refund regaurdless recipt or not compensation for doctor bills, medicine, gas it took to get there and pain and suffering would be nice to but like one of the other post I DOUBT IT. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT A WELL TRUSTED COMPANY THAT FEEDS OUR BABIES WOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL… AGAIN THIS IS B.S. answers NOW not LATER would be nice…. For Those having trouble getting through I have lot numbers 89248T20 and 88036T20 they are confirmed TAINTED… It would also be nice to know what kind of bugs or insects or what the hell it may be in my sons formula that didn’t get put on the ingredients.. I totally understand accidents happen but this is more than an accident how many noses did this tainted formula run under before being put on the shelf… THIS IS A PRODUCT THAT FEEDS OUR PREMIES, NEWBORNS, BABYS. ARE FAMILY AT THAT THE MOST INOCENT ONES ON THIS EARTH THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW IT DID….
If your kids been having stomache problems for 4 months, I doubt its related to the beetles. We’ve been giving this to our son for 10 months, and he didn’t have an issue untill about a week ago. Nothing serious, just didn’t want the bottle.
FYI, I inspected my recalled cans and can find no evidence of the insects.
91576T20 – is recalled.
Just switched from Enfamil to Similac and this happen. WTF
this company is so irresponsible for (1) allowing this to happen to the most vulnerable part of the population, our kids, and (2) not having enough staff on hand to handle the outcry of calls and web hits its receiving now. all consumers should stop purchasing from this company (all products) immediately in my opinion. what a disgrace.
Amen Chris
I have a 7 week old and we had to switch to Similac Sensitive recently because he is lactose intolerant. I, of course, haven’t been able to find out if the 6 containers I bought from BJs are recalled– not even the store can tell me– but he has been healthy and happy since the switch.
Chris is right- this is NOT an FDA mandated recall. Abbott and the goverment are NOT trying to kill our babies. Abbott did the right thing and brought the problem to the public’s attention FIRST.
Again, I’m a new mom of a 7 week old and trying to stay calm. I was feeding him his last ounce of Similac Sensitive RIGHT AS THE RECALL STORY CAME UP ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA.
If his formula is recalled, I will have to find a different lactose free brand for now but I’m not writing off Similac as I have had a good experience with my baby and this formula so far.
First let me state that I do not mean to sound insensitive, inconsiderate, or rude in this comment.
My son is on Similac Organic, as breast feeding was not possible to my wife due to a personal ailment.
However, many of you people stating that you will not continue to use “Similac” is just ludicrous. For one, they are not the first company to have issued a recall. As for baby foods, Beech Nut and Gerber have both had many. For baby items, most of the mainline companies have issued forth recall after recall. Even the “organic” food companies have had recalls. People continue to buy their products. Why? Convenience. “Reputability” is another term I have heard. How is a company that is constantly seen on Recalls.gov reputable?
Also, many of the labels stating FDA claims are fictitious. They are paid off by many companies. I have known people who did this with their own company. Business. Money.
The beetles in this product should NOT be, but there are worse things. How about the food that contains known allergens but doesn’t list them? What about sleepwear made for infants that has drawstrings on it?
Again, as for taking the children off of Similar permanently, research the other companies and their past first. Also research and compare ingredients and vitamin content. You might be sticking with the company you swore you would leave.
P.S. I am vegan and don’t want my child eating bugs, but when all is said, I prefer that to a child forever allergic to peanuts… or dying from it.
91574T20-is recalled
The bad part of it all is that i have to pay for my daughters similac sentivity isomil formula. She has just finished the rectangle container of the recall formula. And here i am thinking that she has colic when in reality its this damn formula hurting her stomach. I still have the concentrated formula but well feed her enfamil instead. I waiting patiently for that class action lawsuit to start!
As soon as you call the hotline it goes silent and sounds disconnected. It’s not though – just wait and someone eventually comes on. I waited about 11 minutes.
Isomil Soy 87900T20 is recalled
Totally agree… they should have anticipated a mass amount of parents going to the website to check for lot numbers!! Our baby girl was just diagnosed with reflux… is it really reflux or contaminated formula? How are you to know?!
I just got through using the phone number. ALL the plastic tubs have been recalled. You can bring them to your retailer for a full refund. In the meantime, you can safely use all the liquid formula. Similac has contacted the retailers and will be discounting the liquid since it usually costs more.
ive been trying to see if i have any recalled cans all morning, but its kinda hard when the website wont come up/download. obviously other parents are having the same problem… was going to try the number thats available but doesnt look like anyones having much luck with that either. come on, please get the site up and running ASAP. this IS an IMPORTANT issue.
This is extremely annoying. I have nothing but Similac formula for my son and I can’t find out whether or not to make him more bottles out of the formula that I have because Abbott couldn’t take the time to increase their web support for this issue. I called the phone number they provided. It just gives you this prerecorded message about using the website and then hangs up on you. Great way to treat a bunch of irritated mothers!!!
Is there anyways someone can try to look this up for me please… The site is not loading 4 me.
86893re6
Thanks
I just bought 3 containers of Similac Advanced, at Sams, yesterday and no one said anything. I also checked my old container that I bought over a month ago (one that my baby sitter was using) and it is also recalled. So this has been going on for a while and no one has said anything about it. I am NOT happy and will no longer be using Similac. I wish I could get my money back for all the other containers I threw away a few days ago.
This is ridiculous! CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!!
(260) and (261) Chris…thank you for not making me b the only one! I posted earlier just about the same thing you just did. Seeing as how there is no proof yet that there were any bugs in the powder, I am shocked at all the parents who aresitting back saying, now that I think of it, my babies tummy has been sick. You all do realize that it could be a coincidence since babies get tummy problems all the time. Wouldn’t you feel silly if you found out there is absolutely nothing in the formula and it was fine. As for those who are complaining about waiting 4-6 weeks for a refund, DON’T. Take it back to the stre and get an instant refund. This is not a natural disaster, where are our brains?

CHECKED-88381RE6–NOT RECALLED
For the people who can’t get the website to come up, try stage.similac.com/recall it comes right up.
Apparently all containers of powdered formula that have the code T2 on it, come from the contaminated lot.
You have to check the lot number on the container to be sure whether yours is one of the recalled. The lot number on my containers are 91575T20 and they were all a part of the recall.
This is really annoying because it takes forever to get on the website to check and now there is just a recording on phone number saying to go on their website!
Lot # 87879T21 has been recalled. This is Similac Organic
91862RE6 – NOT RECALLED
88244RE6 – NOT RECALLED
Than again I don’t know if i should trust them.
I was getting frustrated with not being able to get the lot numbers and re-read the article, which really helped. it states: “Although we still don’t have the Similac recall lot numbers, an official from Abbott has said that ALL LOTS of Similac branded powder in the rectangular, plastic tubs are part of the recall.”
This clarifies it for me…ALL LOTS…so i’m returning my rectangular tub.
I agree completely with Chris and Tabitha, only thing is I haven’t been able to get through to Similac’s recall page using any link or URL that has been posted.
Reading some of the descriptions of these babies’ problems, it sounds like some of them have serious gastrointestinal problems, not just an upset stomach from some buggy formula!
I wonder how many babies had to be switched from Similac to another brand BEFORE this recall. Some kids are much more particular with what formula they drink, some have different sensitivities, etc. Now those issues are being pushed aside, and the recall is being blamed when there could be other individual problems at hand.
I just called the 800# and they confirmed that lot number 88082T30 is NOT on the recall list
My daughter has been spitting up excessivley and refusing bottles, we weren’t sure if it was b/c we swithced to Go & Grow or if it was the introduction of milk…never would have guessed it was beetle larvae. I just had to run out, buy new formula (Enfamil) and run it over to daycare b/c they had recalled formula. I wonder if Similac will reimburse my time away from work. So grossed out!
Lot 90347T20 – RECALLED

this is for annoymous about the 16 oz cans of alimentum…i checked mine and they are NOT recalled. this is for lot #’s 88083T30 and 88080T30
Hey i can’t seem to get through on the phone or on the website. Does anyone know if any of the similac Go and Grow soy formula has been recalled. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anything with T2 on it, is being recalled…
Can anyone please help me to check this lot number: 88326RE6. Many thanks in advance!
Ashley (#281) 86893re6 is NOT recalled. I am in the site now if anyone is still having trouble getting on, I dont mind putting in some to check for you.
took about half hour but website came up
NOT recalled 88083T30 and 88080T30
Ok so I’ve been on-line and calling all morning! the website is not working and I cant even get through. I have 12 cans how am I suppose to check?? grrr!
Just looked up granddaughters formula…took almost 2 hrs to find out if 2 cans were recalled….
Lot 88335RE6 12.4 oz can similac advanced NOT recalled
Lot 92721T20 1.45 lb can similac advanced IS ON recall
Site says to take it back to store for replacement but I prefer a refund…my 3 wk old granddaughter has been having alot of intestinal problems and not sure if this is why or not…my daughter just wants to change to a different brand all together!!
Anyone know if we can get a refund instead of replacement??
jus called my local win dixie n they said all powder formula is bein recalled
(302) racheling your lot number 88326RE6 is recalled
Casey it is not all powdered formula – Similac has advised of a rule of thumb – If your formula is in a plastic rectangular container, its most likely recalled. If its liquid, its not. If you have cans then you still need to check the lot number because it depends on what plant it came from.
Rachael (#302) 88326RE6 NOT recalled
Abbott/Similac should have immediately anticipated the need for greatly increased bandwidth on their server(s) and made allowances before they made the announcement. This was especially important considering that this information requires timely access. I think we’ll be switching to another brand if this is what we can expect in the event of future recalls.
90656RE6 NOT RECALLED
90340T20 has been recalled
well i know what i read on the page and i know what the store said was different but if they are gonna take back my formula then im jus gonna stop tryin to find out on the page … i gave the numbers of my cans through here but no one has helped so owell .
could someone please look up 87840T26 its the only can i have left to see if recalled all the others have been so hope this on is okay. thank you
Anyone know if 91916re 199 0402 & 91919re1 206 0119 are recalled?
Very annoyed! I was supplementing my 7 month old son bc I had recently returned to work. The website is down & the number is busy! I will also be switching and NOT switching back! Thanks Abbot Nutrition for feeding my son beetle larvae and giving me a headache! GROSS!
Can someone check 88046T20. Thanks!
Nannyof2 – 87840T26 has NOT been recalled
CASEY – i searched through. i dont see where you put up your can numbers. I will gladly look them up for you if you put them up.
thank you nadia!
91492t20 , 89311t20 , 90371t20 all recalled
I switched as soon as I heard about the recall…I had seen a few things in my son’s open cans so I just opened a new one. And the website is telling me my cans are not under the recall, but I honestly do not care. I will never spend my money on another can or tub of similac. How do you expect us moms to find out if your similac is recalled with a website that hardly works and a phone number with an automated message telling you to go to the website. Makes no sense to me! Now I sit here with 4 full unopened cans and 2 opened w/ little things floating around in them, yet my cans aren’t on the recall list. Gerber here I come anyways! Good luck moms, I hope you all can find out about the formula you have.
If you are disturbed by the fact that a bug can get into a manufacturing facility and get into a produc then you might not want to consume any type of food because there can be gurantee that all food products are contaminant free… Also you might want to steer clear of peanut butter because there is a very relaxed rat hair content policy with that… Quit being a sheep to a fear mongering media…
We just called our local grocery store. They have a complete list of what’s being recalled.
Can’t get through on the website, can someone check 890979V00?
Thanks,
Can someone please check lot 90813RE7 for me and my 3 month old?! Please and thank you!
We go thru so many cans so quickly. I’m horrified to think that the cans from the last month (or longer????) could have been contaminated. How long has this been going on? Abbot can easily have lot #s tracked to buyers and distributors. So why isn’t it being released which stores had the affected lots? With no way to look at the discarded cans and the Abbot site overloaded with inquiries I have no way to check current cans. We are soy based and I am switching to Earths Best Organic.
Best way to find out if your cans are recalled is to call the store where you them.
91919re1=RECALLED
91916re=RECALLED
Parents, parents. Stop getting your undies in a bunch. Similac said they found larva in the building not in the formula but are just taking extra measures to recall their product just in case in the unlikely event larva or bugs did get in the formula, they would be ahead of the game. The likelyhood anything IS in the formula is probably slim to none. I have a newborn and yes, we gave her similac at first. No big deal. She’s alive and healthy and probably comes into contact with a thousand other germs a day that haven’t hurt her. People, there’s bugs in EVERYONES house. Microscopic stuff everywhere no matter how clean you think you are. It’s a voluntary recall so I’m not to worried. I’ll feed my child the formula as I did the last three weeks with no issues unless I come across a lot number I shouldn’t be using. She was fine yesterday and the day before out of the sam container soooo….
Sara has been feeding her kids bugs all along, so doesn’t think the bugs in the Similac is a big issue. She claims to be poor and can’t give her kids actual food but definitely has enough money for the computer and network service she’s currently on. Can someone please call Social Services on our friend Sara??
On a side note, everyone should bail on Similac. My child is on the Ready-to-feed liquid………..and I still don’t trust it! How can I? Am I to believe that only half of this factory was infected with bugs and not the other? Are the liquids made at the cleaner facility? I don’t buy it……nor will I ever buy Similac!!!
I wonder if these beetles that were found in the formula are covered in pesticides?
That is what scares me more than a few bug parts. And I would think that it was more than just one bug found to enact a recall to this extent.
Many of you people here are rediculous. You sound worse than a two year old having a tantrum. Thee “I’m never buying similac again” statements should make you embarrassed. Grow up and realize it’s a voluntary recall and your children are in NO DANGER! You AND your baby are breathing in dust and dead skin cells right now off of you and your pets. Think of how many things your kids stuff into their mouths in their early years. You don’t think they swallowed a germ or bug even. Yeah right!! YOUR FORUMULA’S FINE, quite freaking out and being a bigger baby than your baby with the stupid statements about being done with similac over this. Dang there’s a lot of stupid people out there.
Similac Sensitive lot #88381RE6 [NOT RECALLED]
Andy must work for Similac. Yes, bugs are everywhere but for a company that charges as much as Similac does for there products, there shouldn’t even be fly’s in the parking lot.
I just called Wal-Mart and they said that the lot numbers that have an RE in them are fine. They are recalling the lot numbers that have an RB in them.
Can Abbott specify or inform us what kind of beetles they found in that Sturgis Michigan plant?
I just found this out in that city.
http://www.bedbugreports.com/city/mi-sturgis
What a disaster. Just another example of poor customer service. Can mistakes and issues arise during any manufacturing process…yes, but to not be equipped to handle communication via the web and phone is simply inexcusable. I would strongly suggest to all to change formula brands and not go back not solely because of the mistake but because they are not equipped to help in the situation. Clearly they can’t be trusted in the same manner that we trust them to provide one of the most important products we use for our babies.
I called (847)935-3456 and got thru with 1 ring. 89394RE6 NOT RECALLED. The rep told me they are looking for RB’s.. Hope this helps!
I have a 3 month old at home…we are switching formulas until this whole thing clears back up, but will go back to similac when its all taken care of.
People are getting out of hand with this – almost EVERYONE seems worried that their baby “ate bugs”…I even saw a post on another comment board saying that their son was “chewing” and “gumming” while his teeth were coming in – they thought it was just normal teething, but now are deciding that it was their son actually chewing “the extra protien”.
COME ON PEOPLE! Think about it – chewing and gumming are NORMAL for a child who is teething, first of all…but if your feeding with formula – its probably in a bottle right? If your feeding from a bottle, it has a nipple on it, right?
Hasnt anyone thought that if that nipple has a hole big enough for something to get through that your kid would actually have to CHEW, then there is something wrong with the nipple? I have both fast and slow flow bottles – even the fast ones have holes so small that a fleck of pepper would clog it.
So relax. Yes, there shouldnt have been bugs in it in the first place, and yes, they admit that there could be upset stomachs and diarhea involved….but more than likely – if you were feeding from a bottle, your kid hasnt “eaten beetles” like so many people are worried about.
Andy, Infants are not so developed as adults or toddlers. Most of their organs are still under developing. They can not even see your face clearly from arm’s length until they are 8 months old. How can you compare infants with kids?
Look at Abbott’s claim, there is “no immediate health risk”, which implies that there may be health risk in the long run.
If they can get away this time, you can not go after them later.
I’m not angry with similac for the recall. However, I’m annoyed about not being able to find any info on my batch numbers. The website won’t load and the number they list has a recording to check the website. They should have their IT department put up mirror sites, this is ridicules.
As for parents freaking out (I even read one say she wanted to be part of a lawsuit) relax! Many of the items you buy in the grocery store have worse. I highly doubt your babies are throwing up and hunched over with gas pains due to the possibility of a ground in bug.
Similac Formula Recall 2010 – Abbott laboratories announced today that they are recalling 5 million cans of specific Similac brand powdered infant formula.
The specific products are 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9 ounce cans of Similac powder that have lot numbers 87932T20, 88117T26, 78208T2,88136T20,91433t20,800-986-8850,800-545-5216,800-515-7677,800-986-8800,847-937-6100,(847) 935-8865,(847)935-3456,66128RB6,61251 RB6,61347RB,84314 RB,85454 T2,86580 T20,88137T20 and 90372T20

Thank you so much!!!
And even more disconcerting is the fact that
THE RECALL LOOK UP PAGE DOESN’T WORK!
Unbelievable! Parents everywhere worried sick about whether they can feed their babies the SIMILAC formula they have, and they’re not even backing this recall by properly disclosing the recall lot information!
websites are down and hotline just disconnected me..very annoyed right now. does anyone know how long this recalled product has been in stores being sold?? my son had diahrea for over a month in aug. er docs diagnosed with stomach virus..now wondering if it was the recalled similac.
I found this website, it lists all the T2 recall numbers, but not the RB ones. It also shows where to locate the lot numbers on the can. Just copy and paste into the address area, and hit enter. Should take you to the website

Just called a local Wal-Mart in Texas and they are saying All Powdered Formula is recalled…. Just letting others know about this…
I have had the same issues as most of you…wondering why my son all of a sudden lost his appetite in the last week or so. How disgusting to find out it was because of beetles since mine were recalled lot #’s. I also had the same issues trying to call the 1-800 # or get on the website. But after doing some detailed searching and with the help of so many of you out there concerned for all of our babies…I have compiled a list of every lot number that I could find based on what other moms and concerned individuals have posted. Hope this helps some of you and I will continue to post more if I happen to come upon anymore. Sorry if there are any duplicates but I tried to delete any that were repetitive. http://www.thessnetwork.com/SimilacRecall
Found mine on there, but still looking for my other: 88166T20. Anyone know??? Similac Advance.
I cannot believe they are saying this isn’t a health risk. We just got a new container and it’s recalled and I checked the container she just went through and it’s recalled! So I have fed my baby beetles and beetle larvae for at least 10 days now?????!!!!! My child already has health issues and now this could be a health risk as well. I can’t believe they are downplaying this so much. NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE THEIR PRODUCTS.
mine were NOT recalled
LOT # 91911RE
THATS WHAT I BEEN SAYIN … ALL POWDERED FORMULA IS RECALLED … DONT WORRIE BOUT THE SITE BC YOU CANT GET ON …..
91573T20 is RECALLED
I don’t know if the eggs were alive or if this is related but about 3 weeks ago I opened a can we “forgot” about from 2 weeks before and I found bugs in it. There was a good bit and I freaked out and threw it away. It had stayed closed so I couldn’t figure out how the bugs got in. Who knows if it is related….. I also have found chunks of dirt in another can a long time ago. To think, my son has had bottles from those that probably are bad!!!
“THATS WHAT I BEEN SAYIN … ALL POWDERED FORMULA IS RECALLED … DONT WORRIE BOUT THE SITE BC YOU CANT GET ON”
All lots of Similac powdered formula in the larger 1.38-lb (22-oz), 1.45-lb (23.2-oz), and 2.12-lb (34-oz) tubs are recalled.
Right now, for the 12.4-oz cans, we know that lots numbers containing RB of Similac Sensitive Isomil Soy and Similac Advance are recalled.
For the lot numbers that people are posting, are they for the larger plastic tubs of formula or are anything of them the smaller cans?
If you can’t find if your lot # has been recalled, I googles the lot # and both of mine popped up. Luckily I was able to get to Meijer and buy out half of their stock of Similac Sensitive RTF and 32oz concentrate bottles.
My 5 1/2 mo old daughter had a stomach bug last week and I am wondering if that was the cause.
Francis, your formula 88166T20 has been recalled. I heard that ALL Similac powder formula with the T20 in the code have been recalled.
Does anyone know if we can file a lawsuit against them.
How I see it is they are just now noticing this but its been going on for at least a year because thats how old my daughter is. She has bad issues she is seening a speicalist now. She cant tolerate regular food and has colic alot and lost plenty of weight just to name a few. I am so upset because my kid trust me to provide and I let her down. A recall just is not eonugh.
Just an FYI and I would bet a lot of other people in the medical profession would agree with me, be VERY careful switching your child over to a new formula. They have to be weaned off of the old and into the new. Otherwise they will more than likely become constipated, which is what happened to my child when I switched her from her old formula to the Similac Sensitive.
If you keep trying the website (I tried for an hour) you can at least find out if your can is under recall. My son’s Organic 23.2oz can is. Lot # 88010T20 1431 097.
If you can’t get to the reimbursement portion of the site, or can’t tell if your lot number is affected, call the store you got it from. They should be able to reimburse you or tell you. I am planning on calling Jewel on the way home from work to see if they’ll reimburse without a receipt.
Another note, I’d call your WIC office. I’ve seen many many WIC coupons come in for Good Start and Enfamil.
I too have the Organic problem, where the only other brand I know of is Earth’s Best, which is a 40 minute drive.
I guess those of you with older infants can try the whole Milk thing out. My son is officially on soley milk now.
85260T2 is recalled.
Can someone check if Similac Sensitive 12.6 oz lot number 90812RE7 was recalled? PLEASSSE
I will NEVER use Similac again! They shouold be SO ashamed of themselves…..WHO KEEPS PRODUCING BABY FORMULA WHEN THEY HAVE A BUG INFESTATION!!!!!!!!! I know people who have saved their similac cans from a LONG time back (their babies have already drank them) — and even those are on the recall list!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter has been drinking this since she was born three months ago. We have been dealing with some BAD stomach problems/almost cholic, but not enough to diagnose. I sure do WONDER if BEETLE JUICE formula has something to do with this. WE SWITCHED TO NESTLE GOOD START LAST NIGHT AND WILL NEVER EVER EVER GO BACK TO TRASH SIMILAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL MOMS/DADS———–My little one is starting to cry for a bottle as well!!!
I think I’m just going to make him a bottle with just rice cereal and some banana(baby food to give it a little more nutrients)…I don’t know what else to do….but i know i definitely don’t want to give him his formula, i still don’t know if it is on the recall list!
This whole thing is a total nightmare. My daughter is 11 months and on Similac Advance (liquid) which I will begin to weed her off of immediately and onto regular milk. For those of you using the powders and with having younger infants, I strongly advise you to immediately switch to Similac Ready-to-feed liquids and gradually weed your child off of that and onto something other then Similac. Me personally, I wouldn’t waste another minute trying to figure out which one is recalled…..I would discontinue using all Similac powdered formula immediately.
THIS IS BAD, I JUST DONATED THIS SAME MILK TO THE FOOD BANK, IT WAS COMMING TO ME FREE OF CHARGE, I CALL THE COMPANY TO SEE WHY WAS THEY SENDING ME SO MUCH OF THIS FREE BABY MILK, THEY (ABBOTT ) TOLD ME THAT I WAS ON A MAILIN LIST THAT STATED THAT I COULD NOT AFORTH THE MILK AND THEY WERE HELPING ME OUT.
I TOLD THEM THAT I HAD NO CHILDREN AND I WAS SINGLE AND NEVER HAD BEEN MARRIED, THEN THAY AS ME TO DONATED TO THE FOOD BANK.
Does anyone know if the Similac Advance Shield, Instant Formula, Singles Powder Packets are on recall. I cannot get to Abbott website nor thru the phone – it’s really frustrating.
My 9m old is having GI problems since last wk, he also vomitted. And he still refuses to eat. He lost weight. He has seen Drs twice. Dr says it wil take 3-4 wks to clear his system. How would I know that my sons GI tract is totally clean after 3-4 wks.
I bought the formula from Dillons but they are not accepting any returns yet as they are awaiting instructions from Abbott. Also, Dillons still have their recalled Similac product on the floor – it’s shocking!
If larvae was in the plant (& not the formlua) than how & why are the kids get so sick???
No mom in their right mind should use Similac again. Back in 2006, Similac had some recalls of the infant formula.
Refunding the parents is not enough. Why can’t all the parents get together & take a legal action. We suffered a lot & Abbott is responsible for this.
thnx francis!!! i found mine on the site u listed
My 3 month old has had diarrhea for 3 days now, the worst I’ve ever seen or smelled. He’s not acting sick though, not refusing to eat, no fever. I use powdered similac advanced. Can’t get through to the website or the phone number they have provided. I agree with Adam and I am playing it safe and tossing the cans I have. Are we going to get reimbursed by the company for the money we wasted?
Thank you Kateri K. Guess I’ll go add mine to that website then. I ended up buying some enfamil last night when I couldn’t find my lots online. I didn’t want to switch to a different formula, but since Similac is going about this all wrong and making you search your lot against their list instead of just giving us the list, I couldn’t be sure that I wasn’t just buying another contaminated formula from the store. I don’t wantt o change my baby’s formula, but since they withheld the list, I can’t be sure.
Jeni,
keep all open and unopened formula. If they are on the list of recalls, they will refund your money for all of them.
Do not take chances with the formula! My 7 month old grandson has had tummy problems for 3 days now. Funny thing is ….it all started when we opened a new can of Similac…..
ok so i tried for about an hour and a half to get thru the website and i finally got thru.. thank God my lot #’s were not affected… so all i can say is keep hitting that refresh button and u might get thru
my uneffected lot # is
86535T30
so good luck in your searches.. and to those babies affected you’ll be in my prayers.. Feel better!!
Please try this number ;
(847) 935-8865
They picked up the phone immediately. The lot # I asked for was 89255T20. Thsi batch # has been recalled.
Sara, I saw you can order a brand called Vermont Organic online from Target.
The similac “Abbott” website just posted a PDF to check your lot numbers. It is very easy and user friendly…
FYI – 91972RE 212 1119 NOT RECALLED
I HAVE BEEN TRYING ALL MORING ON CELL PHONE NO LUCK TO REACH THE 800 # TRY FROM MY HOUSE PHONE AND GOT A ANSWER IN LESS THAN 2 MINUTES
Just got through on the phone line:
Similac Isomil Soy #911159V00 – Not recalled
Similac Isomil Soy #911179V00 – Not recalled
Similac Isomil Soy #87900T20 – Not recalled
A good friend of mine has a 6 week old daughter who was using this formula and has been hospitalized twice in the past 3 weeks for GI issues… So there is a possibility that it is making babies sick!! And there is a list of LOT numbers on the Similac website now… Not something to over look!
I was on a website which said that any can that have RB or T2 in the number has been recalled…my daughter has empty cans with these numbers and the similac website says 2 stop using immediately UGH YEA SHE FINISHED THE CAN OF COURSE SHES NOT USING IT ANYMORE!!!! Im sooo pissed and i changed from similac advance 2 similac sensitive because she would scream cuz her tummy would hurt now I know why!!!!
@Michelle, thank you, I will be looking into this.
Do NOT throw away the cans, but call the store where you got it. If they won’t accept it, maybe another store in the area will accept it.
I am on my way to the Jewel right now, who are taking cans of Similac, no questions asked. They won’t do an exchange, just a refund, which is what I want anyway.
Or else keep trying to get the fed ex e-mail from Abbott themselves.
How sad, I loved their products and always recommended them to mommys-to-be. Not so much anymore…
http://abbott.vo.llnwd.net/o18/similac/sms/pdf/similac-recall-lot-numbers.pdf
This link has a 38-page comprehensive list of all recalled lot numbers.
i wonder if i can get refunded for the empty tubs.
@ Martha 382, I did the exact same thing and it all started when I went from liquid to powder so it makes sense now. Does anyone know if they will be issuing refunds on empty cans and consumed formula? I bought a 6 pack from Walmart.com and I have my receipt but only 2 full cans, 1 empty on hand.
i got through for a brief second and my sons go and grow is on the recall list.
Lot # 87007T20 i hope this helps

My daughter is 3 weeks old. we used to feed ENFAMIL and thought it is causing gas problems & constipation and switched to SIMILAC last monday. we used it for 2 days (probably 10 feedings) and didn’t see any change and also noticed more discomfort in her and switched back to ENFAMIL.After that we hear about this recall and the SIMILAC batch we used is under RECALL.
How Abott can produce infant feeding prodcuts in a place infested with ‘Trogoderma variabile’, a beetle insect. Every parent who fed SIMILAC to thier kids will think any discomfort is caused by similac. Abott saying 99.8% of troubled lot samples tested are showing negetive. Are they going to test recalled products sent back by consumers and inform test results to them? Just saying ‘no health risks’ or giving money back are not appropriate actions
My son has been having stomach aches for the past 2 wks…hes on Similac Advance Early Shield…nd the lot number is 86897RE6 054 0158
Im gettn frustrated becasue i stil cant get on to the web site

Similac has this posted on their site now. It is a 38 page list of lot # effected in the recall.
http://abbott.vo.llnwd.net/o18/similac/sms/pdf/similac-recall-lot-numbers.pdf
Yes Similac has posted the lot # but No all the childrens symptoms from the milk, my son symptoms are: Mild diarrhea, Vomiting,Irritability(fussiness), Poor appetite,Abdominal pain and some complain of headache for aweek.please tell me if others babies have the same symptoms like my son.”THANK YOU”
What the hell Similac and Abbott answer your phones and make your website work. That’s really nice tell everybody that your formula has been recalled with bugs and nobody can get through to you guy’s – thanks !!! My baby which is 2 1/2 months old was affected by this stomach ache/cramping and diarrhea -what about all the formula that i’ve bought in the past few weeks whose going to reimburse me for that since now i’ve thrown out those containers on Weds my garbage day and now you guy’s come out and say this. I wish you guy’s would just pick up your phones and stop putting that recording on i’ve been calling since 8:00a.m this morning and it’s still saying that there’s a over flow volume of calls – Yes, there’s alot of frustrated mothers out there and at this point i’m just never buying any of your products again due to the way your company is handling this matter – which is a serious matter to me when it involves my children.
Well, there’s never been a recall on breastmilk.
My nephew is lactose intolerant and I am angry, because when he was newborn, we tried one of the other Similar products. Poor baby screamed like he was in pain for several days until we tried the Advanced Soy formula. I’ve never heard a newborn cry like that; was it because that formula had these fricken bugs, Abbott Lab?
I hope you are ashamed our your conduct…
Emily, your right. There has never been a recall on breast milk, BUT some of us CAN’T breastfeed. I really wish people would think before they speak.
I have several Similac Advance containers where the lot numbers are part of the recall. It explains so much! My little boy had to go to the hospital after he had projectile vomiting. After they wouldn’t admit him, we came home and he has had extensive diarrhea over several days with one heck of a diaper rash. I caught the news this morning when it was announced and took him off of the formula immediately. He’s still had diarrhea, and now his diaper rash is back. There definitely needs to be a class action on this!
Jaimie, I am sorry if you fall into the category involving the 2% or so of women that truly cannot breastfeed, that is very sad. But the fact is that about 98% of mothers ARE capable of doing so and many do not/will not. Don’t get mad at the breastfeeding advocates (we are friendly and positive people), get mad at the mother’s that could but did not breastfeed- they are the ones making those 2% of mothers look and feel bad.
Yes, Well, that is also their personal decision. My daughter aspirates and has to have formula, plus thickened feeds. I’m 100% for breast feeding, but don’t judge the ones who are not.
oh crap this is not good! My one year old daughter has been sick this past week, running a fever of 103. her doctor is worried that her fever has been this long. Of course we don’t really know what is causing it. And yes she has been eating less but was told it’s becuase of the fever. Do we really know what affect this recall have?
Do stores have a record of the lot that we purchased? i threw my old cans away.
Last week we bought the soy similac because my 11 month old granddaughter seemed to be constipated. She drank the bottles for one day and that night when taking her bottle she threw up so much my daughter was terrified. We immediately switched back to the milk based formula and she was better but fussy and not sleeping well. BOTH of them were listed on the recall! She was breastfed only until last month. They are saying on the news that it probably won’t make babies sick, but that is not true! I am sure this is a bigger problem than they are letting on!
If you’re having trouble getting through to our Similac recall consumer hotline, we have added a new, additional phone # for you: 888-376-2054. Please give us a call, 24/7. We’d like to hear from you! ~Similac Team
Your last line in the article was distasteful for such an unnerving occurrence.
CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT? From a fellow parent, YOU MAKE ME SICK – YOU SHOULD BE MOST CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR BABY, NOT YOURSELF AND GAINING MONEY OUT OF THIS! I’m more disgusted by you than the recall
they will be recalling the liquid next. ,the liquid had to be made from the powder
I am one of the parents that have been shaken up my son has been drinking the formula in his can is one of the one’s that was sent back ,but it’s kinda late to let me know cause he had already went through a couple of cans and he hasn’t held down much of his milk this mounth i had just left the doctor last thursday on the 17 letting him know he wasn’t keeping it down now that’s scary i don’t know what to think.
I have the full list of recalled lot numbers up now in a fully sorted online (non-pdf) list:
Similac Recall Lot Numbers (Full List)
I have 5 similac containers that were used over the past 4 months and all of them have been recalled. YUCK! Really, bugs in the baby formula? Where is the oversite? Where are the inspectors? These are our children for crying out loud! YUCK!!! I am switching to organic formula and I am not looking back – goodbye Similac and up yours Abbott.
My daughter ( 6 months old) became severely ill on Labor Day. She could not keep anything down and would scream at the site of her bottle. She usually consumed 28-30 ounces of Similac Isomil and a this point she had decreased her feedings to 5 ounces per day. We were in the emergency room twice due to dehydration, vomiting, and diarrhea. She had to receive IV fluids to keep her hydrated. The doctors kept blowing us off saying it was just a virus. Believe me, you know when there is something wrong with your child!!! She is finally back to eating again and the containers we currently have are on the recall list!!!!!
I had 12 cans of tainted goods that I fed my asthmatic, allergy ridden 11 month old over the course of the last 2.5 months because my doctor was concerned about his slow weight gain and told me to add a scoop of powder of everything he ate: breastmilk, baby food, etc. I’d be more than happy to sue the pants off of Abbott. It’s hard enough to keep this baby healthy without having to worry about bugs and larvae in his formula.
Emily, This is not the place to be giving lectures on breastfeeding. Try to be a little considerate to what these children and their parents are going through right now. Many women return to work and cannot pump while they are working. In my case I have high blood pressure and with the meds I am on the doctor told me it was not safe to breastfeed. Regardless of wether it’s a medical condition or personal preference, IT IS NOT YOUR BABY!
Yeah, it’s true, breastmilk has never been recalled, however, if the mom takes any meds or drinks any alcohol or eats anything, baby gets it. So mom could eat something that has been recalled. Just saying. More power to those who can breastfeed, and equal power to those of us who formula feed/fed.
Anyway, as to the class action lawsuit, how do you know that mom was thinking about money? People who don’t have children affected by this are saying there should be a lawsuit. A ton of moms are saying it. Most mothers are more concerned about their child than the money. I didn’t even really care about the reimbursement, I was more aggravated that all they quotes the VP saying was “sorry for the inconvienience”.
We’re dealing with our children, and many babies who’s immune systems aren’t used to this yet. And obviously, cleanliness standards weren’t being taken care of.
I am personally not really interested in pursuing anything, however, for my next child, I’m going to have to really think about what choice we want to do for formula, as we go the organic route.
Good Luck to everyone dealing with the recall.
You shouldn’t need a receipt to return anything. When children’s Benadryl was recalled, I was able to return it with no box or receipt. You can go to the store with your product and they should have a list of recalled items as well as a UPC on that sheet and be able to scan that and give you your money back.. Or that is what I was able to do at Target.
My 6 week old infant has been having severe tummy pain and is pushing her bottle away and had diaherra (sp). On a hunch my husband went on their website yesterday morning and our can was affected. I will include the number, but please pray that my little baby girl feels better soon. Iam livid!
89251T20 It is a plastic container of Similac Advance. Hope this helps!
We had two containers and both of them were part of the recall. We just finished one and opened another. I am so mad on why it took so long to do the recall!!!. My son was not the same the last one month (he was in some sort of discomfort – not smiling and a bit cranky) and we wre trying to find reasons. I am sure its because of this contaminated formula. I am switching to Enfamil.
And even more livid that the statement reads “sorry for the inconvenience” What a load of sh**!!!!
Amy, can you please give us a call at 888-376-2054? ~Similac Team
The formula companies make incredible amounts of money every year. Breastfeeding is the best for your child and for you, and yet there is a tremendous campaign to discourage it. I hope this will make parents start to think about this. Breastfeeding is not convenient, it hurts at first, but this is a very small price to pay for its benefits. Not to mention who would want beetles and larvaes in their child, let alone infant milk!
does anyone no if wic is going to change they’re formula or do we still have to go through a doctor to get it changed? I dont think I should pay a doctor if this product is on recall. I try calling wic but they are closed today. HOW CONVINIENT…
This is terrible terrible. That really explained what happened to my son. He is 1 1/2 old. He started to have vomiting, diarrhea, and stayed at home for a week. He refused to take bottles. In the last few weeks, he woke up several time at night which never happened before. He is a very good sleeper, and it was hard to wake him up. I saw the news at night, and went to Walmart around 12:00 midnight to buy a different brand formula. My son takes soy-based formula. Unfortunately, other brands don’t carry soy-based formula for over 12 month. I had to buy 0-12month soy-base formula from Enfamil. I don’t know that’s a good thing or bad.
Shame on Abbott! I don’t know how many bad cans he has consumed with BUGS!
“Unfortunately, other brands don’t carry soy-based formula for over 12 month.”
There is actually a toddler soy formula from Enfamil called Enfagrow Soy Toddler. They may just not have had it at that store.
GOOD START 2 Soy PLUS is another toddler soy formula.
i will never use similac again
Here is the website to the 2,200 lot number on the recall, for anyone that isn’t able to find out:
http://pediatrics.about.com/od/recallsandsafetyalerts/l/bl_similac_recall_lot_numbers.htm
I am just as angry as any other Mom about it. My Pediatrician recommended me switch a no name brand (ex/ Parents Choice). The Lord will take care of our children, if we put our trust in him!
I am so upset over this. My daughter has used this formula since birth and the last few weeks she’s been puking and spitting up, eating less, and having tummy aches. I took her to the doctor and she had no answers for me. Thought maybe it was a cold or teething. Now all three jars of my similac sensitive are recalled. I’m so upset. I want to know what will be done besides reimbursement. They should pay to have all of our babies checked by a doctor. Have their stools tested. Have something done to ensure our babies are ok. Beetle larvae in my child’s stomach. Who would be ok with that?
Simi’Lacks Quality.
Please improve the quality check before dispatch. Abbott should re-look the quality procees in all of their manufacturing unit and increase the ratio of the random check.
My baby had the 2 feedings from this recalled package.
She did not sleep whole night ans still she is cranky. Abbot dont play with the kids food. We are not getting it for free and it costs so much to buy this beetle & larvae filled formula. Should provide the remedy medicine ASAP to the consumers.
No, this contamination has the immediate effect which am facing.
My baby gad 2 feedings from the recalled formula and she is sick and cranky ever since. We had a sleepless night yesterday and dont know the reason for her cry.
She is just 5 months old and never been sick, it is immediate to the new babies since their stomach is so sensitive. Don’t trust The research result and Did they tested on real specimen, I don’t think so.
DO I HEAR LAWSUIT ANY BODY WHO WANTS TO HAVE THERE KIDS EATING BUGS. DOES THAT DANGER THEM IN THE NEAR FUTURE , I BEEN FEEDING MY SON SIMILAC EVERY SINCE HE WAS BORN N I FOUND ONE CAN DAT I HAD NEVA THREW AWAY ON RECALL /. MY SONS ONLY 5MONTHS N HE BEEN THROWING UP AS IF HE WAS LIKE ONE N MILK BEEN COMING OUT HIS NOSE THEY NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THATS NO A HEALTH RISK, HOPE THERE NOT HIDING ANYTHING CAUSE THEY KNOW WAT ITS HITTING FOR>
HEY EVERYONE I WORK WITH SIMILAC. THE BEETLES ARE IN ALL THE FORMULAS (BOTH POWDER AND LIQUID) PLEASE LISTEN DONT BE FOULED PROTECT YOUR BABIES.
CHANGE TO A DIFFERENT BRAND OF FORMULA
THE BUG THAT IS IN THE PRODUCT CAN HURT OR EVEN KILL YOUR BABY
PLEASE LISTEN
Well there you have it, not to preach or anything, but when it comes to your baby ‘breast is best’.
I would like to know just how long the affected formula has been sold before the recall. I work with infants and the 2 that drink Similac both got sick. One of the babies had an unopened container of recalled Similac at the school for emergencies for over a month. That seems to me that the contaminated formula has been sold for quite a while now. I am sorry but “poses no health risk” to a baby that ends up vomiting and has watery stools seems to be a major health risk.
switching to Earths best.. great price on Amazon.com and free shippin for the big bonus can
WOW!! SO WORRIED AND DISSAPPOINTED!! MY 10 MONTH OLD BABY HAS BEEN ON SIMILAC SENSITIVE ISOMIL SINCE SHE WAS 6 MONTHS.. SINCE THEN SHE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SO FUSSY…AND 3 DAYS AGO SHE HAS STARTED VOMITING AND REFUSING TO EAT… IS IT A STOMACH BUG OR IS IT SIMILAC’S RECALL?? CAN’T BELIEVE THIS. IS SIMILAC GOING TO REPLACE ALL THE POWDERED CANS I HAVE BOUGHT?? WHO CARES ABOUT THE MONEY.. IS SIMILAC GOING TO REPLACE MY DAUGHTER’S HEALTH?? NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE SIMILAC! IMMEDIATLY CHANGING HER FORMULA! I DECLARE !
I have containers from over 4 months ago. All 17 of them are on the recall list. Alot of them have the same number. If the problem just started why are they recalling them from that long ago.
The inconvenient truth is that Abbott doesn’t treat their customers equally. I am currently traveling out of the states and my baby was on Similac from the first day of her birth. When I called the Similac customer service, they tended to deviate me from any helpful solution by a simple answer ‘we’ll call you back’. I don’t know how long it will take them for an international call-back. I tried to hold my anger but it seems that they just think that I can be easily fooled.
Anyway, I have my solutions: I went to the store and bought Enfamil right after I hang up the phone and contacted my lawyer friends in NY.
I also did my research on internet and the first cases of beetles added formula was found by a few customers more than one year ago (I read their posts that time and could locate those angry parents). If they did the recall that time, Abbott has to recall almost 80-90% of the contaminated products. But now, after one year’s consumption (most parents threw away their empty bottles or one-year old receipts), Abbott probably will only recall less than 30% of their total infected products!
To Similac Team, I keep all formula or toys receipts!
The reason I keep all the receipts is that I want to tell my daughter when she grows up that how much time and money I have spent on her.

I am not defending Abbott, but I have not heard of any previous reports of contamination.
What I do know is that they:
*had an annual FDA inspection on March 15, 2010, which didn’t result in any regulatory action
*had a state inspection in July 2010 that did not find any problems
*conduct regular quality assurance checks, like the one that uncovered this issue, although I couldn’t get a firm answer on when the previous one was done
*99.8% of the recalled product from the affected production line actually tested negative for beetles and beetle larvae, but as a precaution, they recalled all formula made from this production line at this plant
That is not to minimize the fact that 0.2% of 5 million cans of baby formula may be contaminated with warehouse beetles or beetle larvae, but that parents should keep the facts in mind as they judge the company, whether they decide to try them again in the future, or stay away and go with other baby formula companies and brands.
Thanks for the facts Dr Iannelli. There is just too much mis-information and speculation circulating around this and it’s worrying parents even more than is necessary. Such as that comment above from Bella which is NOT CORRECT -”the bug that is in the product can hurt or even kill your baby” – again, NOT CORRECT. This would have been a mandatory recall and classed differently by the FDA if that was the case. That comment probably isn’t even from a Mom and is just out there unjustly spreading fear among caring parents!
I use Enfamil for my daughter but have several friends with recalled Similac cans. I hope all of you find an alternative formula that you feel comfortable using and that your LO’s are okay.
I also ask that the Breastfeeding advocates refrain from riding their high-horse into this board. I know very few women who breastfeed exclusively for 6 months and only one that has done so and held a full time job. Your comments and judgement are not welcomed by parents who are concerned about this situation.
They’re asking us to send the milk back to them. BUT WHY?.. Are they getting rid of all the proof. Im tempted to get mine tested in a lab to see if my 10month old has been drinking ground up beetles in her formula!!!.. I wonder when the Class Action lawsuit is going to appear??.. IM NOT sending my milk back to the company. Im keeping it to see how this thing plays out!..
My baby was been having the same symptoms the vomiting, the green diarrhea, the fussiness. He was also had a gradual loss of appetite. Now I am having a hard time just to get him to drink an ounce of pedialyte. As soon as I heard about the recall I went online and looked up the formula recall numbers once I had assured myself hat my baby cans of formula were fine I was relieved to know that my baby should be fine. However that comfort didn’t last long since I have a container of formula which he had just previously finished which I also looked up and I was infuriated to find out that it was part of the recalled formula. I’m surprised that it took Similac so long to figure out that their formula was contaminated. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I AM HAPPY ABOUT. SIMILAC IS SAYING THAT IT CAUSES NOTHING MORE THAN GASTROINTESTINAL INDIGESTION. BUT WHAT MAKES THEM THINK THAT I AM COMFORTED BY THIS THERE IS ABSOLUTLY NO WAY I AM ABOUT TO FORGET ANY OF THIS. JUST LIKE I KNOW THERE IS SO MANY ANGRY MOTHERS OUT THERE BECAUSE THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS KIND OF INEPTITUDE. OUR BABIES ARE HUMAN BEINGS THEREFORE SIMILAC NEEDS TO BE 150% SURE OF THE QUALITY OF THERE PRODUCTS.
Okay so a few weeks ago I found these litte tiny bugs on my counter. They were a brownish color. I got looking and I found them in the formula container. I thought they just found their way into the container so I started putting it in the fridge. Does anyone know what type of beetle or what they look like?
Dear Dr. Vincent Iannelli,
What I said is about the infected product, while what you defend for Abbott is all their product.
On the other hand, LOGICALLY, what you didn’t know of, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist!
*conduct regular quality assurance checks, like the one that uncovered this issue, although I couldn’t get a firm answer on when the previous one was done
Just as you implied, how frequently (once a year?) and carefully they conduct so called ‘quality control’ is the question.
I will never use similac again! It is gross and I almost puked when I heard the news! I can’t believe that my baby was drinking that crap!
I just heard of the recall today. I am so angry to hear that this has been an ongoing issue and not addressed sooner. I am switching to another formula immediately and would never use Similac again. Are the regulatory agencies more concerned about the companies bottom line vs. the health and wellness of our children?
“Okay so a few weeks ago I found these little tiny bugs on my counter. They were a brownish color. I got looking and I found them in the formula container. They have not said, but they have been described as typical warehouse beetles. One source about warehouse beetles (not a source about the Similac formula recall though) said that ‘The warehouse beetle adults are small, only 1/8-inch in length and are dark with yellow to brown patches on the body. The larvae are approximately 1/4-inch in length and orange-brown in color with sharply protruding hairs. ‘
It is said that it is the hairs on the larvae that can cause gastrointestinal symptoms, such as diarrhea and vomiting.
The closely related cabinet beetle, which is a little larger, is commonly found in homes, in attics, shelves where food is stored, and cabinets.
We are also going to switch. They’ve lost my trust. Thanks for telling us Similac but I only think you did it because you had to before it was spilled by someone else (media). Enfamil is going to get a lot of business now.
My 5 month old son has been sick for a week and we continued feeding him bugs throughout this time.
They claim that it is just a precaution and there is a slight chance to get sick. Just do a Google search and find sick baby stories all over the Internet. I am having tough time understanding what kind of a slight chance this is?
Sad thing is Similac won’t even get a slap in the hand. Can anyone including any government institution guarantee us what the beetle or whatever will not cause damage in our babies’ stomachs or intestines in the long-run?
In any case, our babies are sick and they ate bugs. People in these forums tell us that we cannot do much. I don’t care what they say and I don’t care what Similac’s excuses are, this is not fair and this is not justice.
I hate my only option’s being “just switch to another brand”. We have to do something so anybody in this business will think health, safety, and quality more than profits or “maximizing efficiency”.
I wish quick recovery for your babies.
So, they said that out of 5 million cans of formula, that 99.8% were ok. So that means that 10,000 cans of formula HAVE for sure bugs or larvae in them. Very reassuring. That is still a pretty big number. This makes me sick. I have twins and they have not been sleeping and have been very fussy for a few weeks now and I assumed they were teething and brushed it off. Well my little guy got both of his bottom teeth in over a week ago and he is still crazy fussy as is his sister. I switched to walmart brand right after I heard about the recall and already today they are fine. After two days of not being on it they are eating more and seem happier. This is rediculous and never should have happened. Similac says that they are refunding money for unopened, opened, and empty cans that are included in the recall, but what about the 14 canisters that I have thrown away in the last month? This makes me sooooo angry that I trusted them with the safty and well being of my children and this is what happens.
Oh and to those of you that are commending Abbott for doing a voulentary recall, of course they did. A voulentary recall sounds much better than saying one of their employees reported bugs, nothing was done, the employee called the FDA and the FDA made them close down to clean up, which is what would have happened had they not done it on their own.
Though my kid’s formula is on the recall list,he has not shown any symptoms till now..Touch wood!!Iam so worried because he has been on similac advance from his 6th month till now..Hes gona be 1 year..Shame on Similac!!
I have an 8 month old daughter and she has been on Similac since she was 2wks old and she has been sick for 2wks now and the dr could’nt figure out why she’s been so sick and then i seen the recall and when i called Similac they said that my cans where on the recall list and she had already drank almost 1 of the big powered cans of it i told the dr when i took her back to the dr and he said that that could be why she has been sick. I switched her formula as soon as i found out and i’m not giving it to her no more or when my new baby comes either.
INFANTS CANNOT DRINK REGULAR MILK…..YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF GIVING THEM THE FORMULA
As a person on the inside of one of the call centers, I work from 8am to midnight just to make sure the people that call in know that this product is affected. All of the powder is affected and don’t let anybody tell you different. I have had mother’s calling in crying and they don’t know what to do. I can only tell them so much because we only get a limited of info from Abbott/Similac and that’s a DAMN SHAME!!! Just stop using it, the process is going to take over 2 months for a reimbursement and that’s messed up when it takes them 5 seconds to take your money for the product. I’m a mother and this **** is not fair to the public!!! If y’all call in to the call centers we can do our best to help y’all, but they have stuck us in this situation because they don’t want to feel the heat from YOU!!!!
the FDA did not mandate this recall -Abbott didn’t even have to tell the public about this – you should be happy they did – they are well within the law and a lawsuit wouldn’t get you anywhere – yes it’s unfortunate but if you read the recall you will see it states there is a REMOTE possibility that the formula is contaminated think about how many other food warehouses have bugs they don’t tell you about
I will never again give my baby similac i switched her to enfamil and now she is doing much better and i will be happy when her tests come back fine that similac made her sick I will never use it again.
Wow, moms really seem to have an issue with bugs, how sad. You and your kids are going to unknowingly eat plenty of bug part whether or not it from Similac. Would these beetle parts really get sucked through an infant bottle? My daughter’s jams up even from a little chunk of powder if I don’t mix thoroughly… oh wait maybe that’s the beetles! I hope Abbott donates the perfectly good formula to needy infants… what a waste.
Unfortunate that there was such an overreaction by the public to the voluntary information released.
Any wonder the lines were busy and the website was down? So many panicy parents trying to go to the same place at once. Duh!
From what I’ve read, the chances of your formula actually having bugs in it are less than 1 in 200000 (over 5 million cans were recalled). The factory was in the US, not China, as some purported.
All the fussy or non-eating babies reported are most likely unrelated. It’s a classic case of external psychosomatic miasattribution of causation.
Has anyone actually seen bugs in their formula? Not one poster here has said that they’ve seen the beetles or larvae. You would certainly notice them in the container or in the bottle upon feeding. We looked in our cans, when opened and have yet to frind anything but powder. (If you;re nervous, try sifting the powser through a seive first.)
So, everyone relax a bit.
No, I don’t work for Abbot. Yes, my son eats Similac Advance. We see no need to change. Except maybe that there is none on the shelves right now. Fortunately we keep a stock of powder and liquid to last weeks.
My question is; When will it be back on the shelves?
Seriously though… says:

According to your calculation (1 in 200,000), there are only 25 cans that might be contaminated. Do the math again, 5 million*0.2%=10,000. The probability was based the limited samples Abbott tested.
Also, the recall says small insect parts and beetle larvae. How could you easily see those fine parts having been processed in the powder?
I filled out online form for my recalled formula and the website indicated that I would get FedEx return kit in 3 business days. Here I am almost a week later with nothing in my hand to return their crap.
ARE YOU PEOPLE STUPID ALL THE PEOPLE FILLING OUT RETURN FORMS FOR KITS THAT ARE GOING REGULAR MAIL AND YOU WONDER WHY YOU DON’T HAVE IT IN 3 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!! IT’LL BE AT LEAST 7-10 REGULAR MAIL DAYS DUE TO THE VOLUME OF KITS GOING OUT //// COMMON SENSE NEEDS TO BE USED A LITTLE MORE FROM THE SOUND OF IT
can anyone check lot #91909RE thanks
My 7 month old son has been drinking from a container that is on the recall list for about a month now. It was almost gone when the recall was announced. He has not been sick and I am still feeding it to him. Of course, he does not drink it everyday. I use it as a supplement to breastfeeding.
I am one of the outraged parents due to the recent recall. My 9 month old has been using the Similac formula since her birth. But Abbott’s effort to recall is not whole-hearted, those guys are still trying to save as much money as possible, voluntary recall is just a stunt, to prevent a congress probe and hefty fines.
Most of my fellow parents who use Similac went to the stores they bought the product from, to return the product (though Abbott is providing a way to return the product, but this is very convenient). But stores like Costco have not accepted any recalled products if more than 50% of the product is already consumed. They say that this is the policy of Abbott and they cannot accept it. Most of the parents thought that this is Abbott’s policy and went back un-reimbursed and threw away their recalled tubs. Abbott, very cleverly excluded the details of “returns to retail stores” on their website. No where does it mention that recalled tubs can be completely empty for the returns to take place.
I went into a verbal argument at my local Costco store in Sunnyvale, CA who would not accept my almost empty Similac tub, saying that it is Abbott’s policy. After a lot of argument, they finally accepted with much reluctance. Throughout the ordeal, they treated me like a thief trying to steal their money. The manager at the store pointed towards my 9 month old daughter and said that my daughter is looking OK, so I should not expect a reimbursement.
If Abbott had clearly specified their policy and did not crave to save money at the expense of helpless infants, this would not have occurred. Basically if they answered these questions very clearly, a lot of parents would be happier. I dont know what kind of a PR team they have, but it is basic common sense to include this information on their web site.
I am currently trying to connect to parents who had similar experiences and will forward our complaints to our local senator.

Um, any parts of these beetle would be black, and even if ‘powdered’ (which is not the case) they would still stand out in the white powder. Actually, the infestation was post-processing but pre-packaging, meaning that parts were bound to be noticeable, and would still collect in the bottle.
As for the calculations…what data is more accurate than the sample from Abbott? It’s not as though all recalled cans have been audited by a third party. Abbbotts estimate is all there is.
1 in 200k or 1 in 500? More likely somewhere inbetween. Actual count will never be known.
Still, and especially if the true rate is 1 in 500, there is still not one poster here who claimed that their children were getting sick who also made mention of actually finding the bugs in their formula. That is the main point.
So, talk to a Senator if you like. You’ll get your platitude and lip service. Nothing can prevent these sorts of things from happening from time to time. Get over it.
The website was down @ first. N Abbott was receiving close to 40000 calls an hour! So yeah the lines gonna be busy. N to the people that want to switch brands cuz of this I just wanna laugh. If you had any idea as to how many bugs you eat from your food products you would starve. There isn’t an infestation. They found one container with beetle parts. Omg. Its a snack in the middle east. Full of protein. The beetle is commonly found anywhere. They voluntarily did the recall. They could have just not said anything.people need to get a clue. Lmao.
So I found myself reading this comments and i came across one that said that she had a can with the letter “T” that was recall but was not on the list only the “RB” ones where.
Well turns out I had a can of formula with the letter T and what do you know…it was part of the recall…
I think they should review which are the products that were recall once again, because if we would to go by the information they give us and we believe and trust them, you can risk your child getting sick…
my baby is now 3 months old but he was a preemie born 8 weeks early and Im very EXTRA carefull about the dates in the formulas and I almost used the formula that was thought to be clear…
It really upsets me cause god forbit this would of done something considering all the risks that preemies face. I also read another one that said that their child was super fuzzy with the formula and all, well now my baby is taking similac liquid formula but he seems to be acting fuzzy for no reason and he never was like that before, I will now check ALL the cans I have to make sure they werent part of the recall and they might of missed them, and I will also talk to his pedi and probably change his formula. I just recommend all parents to double check and be sure because you just never know, like the saying says, “BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.”
OMG! OMG! OMG! MY BABY IS PUKING EVERY 5 MINUTES! HES GOT DIARRHEA! AND HES EVEN FUSSY! IT MUST BE THE SIMILAC!!! IF IT’S NOT THE SIMILAC WHAT CAN IT BE???!!! -these are all symptoms of-…….BEING A BABY!!! dont babies puke, have soggy poo, and cry all the time? Why do people think that just because thier baby is crying alot or has diarreah or is throwing up that its because of the similac that MAY or MAY NOT have a SMALL piece of a COMMON BEETLE in it? wow… i like the one post that i saw that say: “Paents. Stop being a bigger baby than your baby.”
You know people like you (wow) should not even be able to use the internet and post comments. You are very ignorant and obviously don’t have children. And if you do I feel sorry for them. It is wise for parents to take caution and be scared for their babies health. They want their children to have healthy brain functions.(unlike you) People get scared and some may over react a little, but it is for the simple fact that they love their children and want them to be safe and healthy. So you and your “likes” need to get stop being so ignorant.
WOW, what to do, was planning on informing WIC that i will be needing formula soon for my 3mo old daughter at our next apointment, and for those of you who dont know WIC gives similac, i hope they are offering to get another type of formula for those mothers on WIC becaues like alot of other moms im switching and i dont want to be forced to use a formula i no longer trust just because i need state assistance and cant afford it all on my own.
‘shaken’ and ‘annoyed’…bugs are not harmful to eat. It’s not like there was poison or glass in it. In no way will it harm the kids. Actually, since the gut has a great deal to do with the forming/growing immune system, it might actually help the kids to eat a few bugs.
my baby is 2 months old i was feeding him enfamil for fusiness and gas..my doctor yold me 2 try Similac Soy isomil for he woos b better..but now that its on recall what should i do or should b best to feef him…anyone have a answer
I had my babygirl at the drs office last week same symptoms as described above gave her pedilyte for 48 hours straight went back to her Similac sensitive spit up for fussiness and gas and it started all over again. Went to the store yesterday not being able to find this formula anywhere 2 different stores dais Similac pulled it in a late recall last week. I called Abbott and they said it was just out of stock I also called the wic office and they said out of stock. Then I called her pediatrician and he said it was recalled and he felt that was why she got sick all over again. For almost 2 weeks my babygirl has been suffering because of the formula I was feeding her that is still on the shelves! I bought the last can on dec 31st. I have switched to enfamil now and my pediatrician has told me he is switching all his patients to other brands. I am so upset that this is still going on and our government still recommends Similac for babies just because it is cheaper!ladies please don’t fed your child Similac. My babygirl is 4 months old and was breastfed until dec when I had to quit.
I am just finding out about this recall. ignorance is no excuse but… my 2 month old just was switched from gerber good start to fussiness and gass similac. she has been gassier than ever.
I truly believe that this product increases gas and fussiness, my daughter was not that gassy before and now she wails and wails and wails and her gas is as audible as if from a 300 pound man eating baked beans.
it’s no the beetles that are causing this problem it’s the chemical sused to “kill” the beetles that r causing this problem. Anyone else having problems with similac after the recall? I checked the list and the batch numbers aren’t on the recall. something is up though.
Can I send my left over formula to a lab for analysis? who is recommended?
a lot of lulz going on here.
Another great reason why women should breastfeed
