Egg Recall Brands - Photo courtesy of the FDAIn addition to the previously announced egg recall brands, Country Eggs, Inc. has announced that some of their eggs were produced by Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa where many other eggs may have become contaminated with Salmonella.

These recalled eggs from Country Eggs, Inc. were distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centers and foodservice companies in California, Arizona and Nevada in 15 dozen bulk packs with plant codes of P-1946 and P-1026 and Julian code dates of 216 to 221. These codes will be on the egg carton label in the format of plant number followed by the Julian date, such as P-1026 216.

Other eggs listed among the egg recall brands include Albertsons (California or Colorado), Bayview (California and Nevada), Boomsma, Dutch Farms (sold at certain Walgreens stores), Farm Fresh, Glenview, Hillandale, James Farms, Kemps, Lucerne, Lund, Mountain Dairy (California and Nevada), Nulaid (California and Nevada), Pacific Coast, Ralphs, Shoreland, Sunshine, Sun Valley (California and Nevada), and Trafficanda.

In addition to recalled eggs sold in stores, keep in mind that the recalled eggs could also have been a part of egg dishes, cakes, and other foods that contain raw or undercooked eggs that were served in restaurants that had the recalled eggs.

Jane Velez-Mitchell (who is a vegan and eats no eggs or animal products) is sure to have a field day with this on her show tonight “Issues.” I don’t think you can actually get salmonella from fruits or vegetables unless they come into contact with animal manure or animal products. Issues is a good show. I learn a lot.

However they get contaminated, a lot of the foods that have been involved in past Salmonella outbreaks have included vegan foods. Unless you grow ALL of your own foods, you will likely not be immune from the chances of getting food poisoning.

Sources of past outbreaks of Salmonella have included:

Pistachios
Cantaloupe
Raw Alfalfa Sprouts
Peanut Butter
Tomatoes
Veggie Bootie Snacks
Jalapeno Peppers
