Spring Allergies
The first day of spring is still a few weeks away, but in many parts of the United States, grass is starting to get green and trees are already blooming. That can mean the start of spring allergy season, whatever the calendar says, and despite the fact that we are still in the middle of cold and flu season. If your child has seasonal allergies that are triggered in the spring, then in addition to a clear runny nose and sneezing, your child may have watery, itchy eyes, dark circles under his eyes (allergic shiners), and an itchy nose. On the other hand, if your child has a green or yellow runny nose and/or a fever, then it is more likely to be a cold or the flu and not allergies causing his symptoms.
There is some good news for parents of young children with seasonal allergies... Allegra is now available as an oral suspension and so there is now another option for treating young kids with allergies, in addition to Claritin, Clarinex, Singulair, and Zyrtec.
